1992 Dream Team vs 2012 Dream Team

Featured Replies

CB is one of the most under rated players of all-time. Never really struggled unless it was against very tall P-Forwards like McHale...anybody under 6'10" couldn't handle him. LeBron is a freak but has he ever shown the toughness to handle somebody like the Round Mound of Rebound?

Who would Barkley guard?

I don't that anyone has ever shown the toughness to handle Charles Barkley. However, at the same time...has Barkley ever played against someone the size of Karl Malone with the elite level of athleticism as LeBron?

No. Coach Cal tweeted last night that the size of this team is underrated. He stated that LBJ is bigger that their bigs.

I don't see Pippen stopping Durant. 6'10" with a jumper?

Pippen would be all about keeping the ball out of his hands and staying right up on him, if he cheated off it would be "Goggles up" for Durrant

I think the running ability of the 92 team is being undersold also. Jordan (according to Roy Williams) is one of the fastest timed players in the history of UNC, I don't recall many people out running him on fastbreaks, Pippen and Drexler were transition beast as well. Magic passing ahead made himplay much faster than many of todays dribble first point guards.

As for Howard being healthy, he would be a load for either Ewing or Robinson. But could he get out on the floor and guard either of them.

Derek Rose IMO might be the toughest match up for 92. Stockton constantly held his own against more athletic PG's of his day but few were of the caliber of Rose. If Jordan is on Kobe and Pippen is on Durrant then the 92 pg has to pick up Rose...that would be a tough one for 92. Magic's experience would help negate some of Rose's athleticism, he also was constantly attacked by smaller faster guards...but I don't recall him getting beat too many times.

If we are going to have Rose and Howard healthy then we got to make Bird healthy as well. Bird was a pure assassin and would be in the ear of every young guy on DT12.

I am using 1992 Bird and Magic and 2012 Rose and Howard. Bird and Magic were not only career ending injuries but also at the end of their careers. If we are making everyone healthy I want 81 point Kobe and not 33 year old Kobe. 2012 all the way.

That goes both ways, give me Magic and Bird at the top of their games and this isn't even a conversation...Pippen and Jordan (twin Dobermans on Defense) could make it impossible for a team to even set up their offense, let alone run their offense.

That's like an answer Ty Cobb once gave in the 50's. He was asked what he would hit in "Today's" game. He said, "I'd probably only hit .270." The interviewer responded w/, "Wow, is today's pitching that much better?" Cobb said, "No, I'm 72 years old."
That is hilarious.

Magic was still pretty good. He was all star game MVP that year.

Everyone realizes that Magic had a great post game, right? Rose and Paul would have MAJOR trouble guarding him and Howard is too undisciplined to pressure him much on doubles. Durant would have trouble putting the ball on the floor and would need to shoot on the move or in the post. Malone could body LBJ all day down low, but would be in it deep if he were to start hitting. Mulling was a tough guard as he was constantly coming off screens. Just so many match ups and underrated games within the game. I mean, stockton and Malone and the pick and roll? The guy is the 2nd leading scored of all time.

I think the original Dream Team 2012 could beat the original Dream Team 1992 in one game. A 7 game series would go 7 games and whoever has the ball last wins. We're talking Dream Teams. That's my dream.

I think Dream Team 1992 would defeat the current 2012 Olympic team. In one game. In a series. Doesn't matter.

I think people are way too enamored with the names of 1992 instead of looking at every single player from each team and the. Making an unbiased evaluation. And yes, 1996 has to be in the conversation as well.

Magic was good then but he didn't have the control over his meds the that he does now. He fatigued quickly. Let's not act like he was playing the whole game. He couldn't.

Not a chance! The real Dream Team had to many great shooters!!!! James and Kobe would get smoked by Jordan and Magic or Bird and Barkley!

What they did against International competition is irrelevant. They lost a 1 game scrimmage to college kids. It's not like this team couldn't beat them. I'd take the 92 team in a series, but I don't think it would be a 4-0 sweep.

Jordan sat most of that game and according to the documentary Daley sabotagued that game to get their attention with his substitutions keeping them from having any rythem oc continuity. The next day they beat them by about 70 points when he coached the game straight up.
