1992 Dream Team vs 2012 Dream Team

Featured Replies

Who would guard KD for the Dream Team? Pippen is most likely on LeBron, so not sure who would be on KD. I feel like that's a HUGE matchup advantage for the current squad. That said, Dream Team would probably still win.

Who would guard Westbrook as well? He would be running circles around people like the road runner.

Westbrook would guard Westbrook. Duh...

That was the point I made in an argmument here in the office. '12 would have to make this a transition game. If they played only in the half court, then they would get smoked.

I think the 2012 team would stand the best chance if they played by the old NBA rules that didn't allow zone defenses.

I think the current rules and the international rules would both benefit the '92 squad.

What was he supposed to say when posed w/ the question? "Nah, they'd smoke us?" IF this team can run through their opponents by 25+, then they can be brought in to be compared to '92. I say that b/c the International Game is better overall than it was back in '92. I don't believe that '92 Lithuania or Croatia beat '12 Argentina and Spain. That being said, the '92 team is the reason that basketball took off world wide. That contribution is often understated.

Additionally, until this team wins in convincing fashion, '96 is the 2nd best team, followed by 2008.

Finally, if Jordan can't laugh this off and remember where Kobe is sitting in regards to the media, then he is even closer to beating out Oscar Roberston for another "greatest" title. Greatest Grumpy Ex-Player. Take a page from Larry Bird's book. Admit that the young guys are very talented and appreciate it. Maybe that's why he was a great coach and executive, and Jordan and Magic struggled.

This X 10.

I'd have lost respect for Kobe or any athlete that would say they'd lose to a team. I can't root for a guy who would admit defeat before the game.

I think the current 2012 team would lose.

Give me Rose and Howard back from injury and I stand by my original belief.

Mine would be....

Magic-MJ-Pippen-Barkley-Robinson

Rose-Kobe-Lebron-Durant-Howard(pre-injuries)

That would be a good matchup 5 on 5...with that line up I think 92 feeds Barkley every trip down court against Durrant. 12 would probably attack Scottie with LeBron but Scottie was an elite defender and that would be fun to watch.

Lebron would guard Barkley or Malone and Durant would guard Pippen. The 92 advantage inside is way overblown. Chandler could guard the Center and LBJ would have no issues guarding the PF. With a Healthy Howard the inside advantage wouldn't even be an advantage.

I'm not an NBA coach but I would have Durant on Pippen and LeBron on Barkley.

CB is one of the most under rated players of all-time. Never really struggled unless it was against very tall P-Forwards like McHale...anybody under 6'10" couldn't handle him. LeBron is a freak but has he ever shown the toughness to handle somebody like the Round Mound of Rebound?

Pippen guarding Durrant would be one of the best matchups of the game, two guys trying to do what they do best against the other one.

I think the running ability of the 92 team is being undersold also. Jordan (according to Roy Williams) is one of the fastest timed players in the history of UNC, I don't recall many people out running him on fastbreaks, Pippen and Drexler were transition beast as well. Magic passing ahead made himplay much faster than many of todays dribble first point guards.

As for Howard being healthy, he would be a load for either Ewing or Robinson. But could he get out on the floor and guard either of them.

Derek Rose IMO might be the toughest match up for 92. Stockton constantly held his own against more athletic PG's of his day but few were of the caliber of Rose. If Jordan is on Kobe and Pippen is on Durrant then the 92 pg has to pick up Rose...that would be a tough one for 92. Magic's experience would help negate some of Rose's athleticism, he also was constantly attacked by smaller faster guards...but I don't recall him getting beat too many times.

If we are going to have Rose and Howard healthy then we got to make Bird healthy as well. Bird was a pure assassin and would be in the ear of every young guy on DT12.

I don't that anyone has ever shown the toughness to handle Charles Barkley. However, at the same time...has Barkley ever played against someone the size of Karl Malone with the elite level of athleticism as LeBron?

I don't see Pippen stopping Durant. 6'10" with a jumper?
