1992 Dream Team vs 2012 Dream Team

Featured Replies

I have seen it several times that 12 is superior athletically than 92. Do we not remember how athletic Jordan, Pippen, Drexler, Malone, Barkley, and Robinson was at that time.

Bigger, faster, and stronger now in every sport. Not knocking those guys at all. They were freak athletes too. These guys are way more athletic IMO. LBJ is bigger and faster than every non center from 92.

Way more athletic? Those 6 I mentioned are just as or more athletic than all of them on 12 except Lebron.

I think 1992 wins.

If we play the "guys who aren't on the roster card" lets not forget 92 could have included Thomas by that logic, strengthning the overall talent even more.

Disagree. They were athletic for their time but I would guess every generation is more athletic than the last. 20 years is a generation of athlete to me.

They would still be top athletes today. Barkley was a freak of nature to do what he was able to do. Jordan and Pippen could play with anybody. Malone was a physical specimen along with Robinson. Drexler was a high flier as well.

2012 would be dominated inside. David Robinson, Ewing, The Mailman, and Barkley against Tyson Chandler, Anthony Davis, and Kevin Love. Forget the guard play, post play would determine this matchup.

I'm not saying they aren't athletic. I'm saying every generation of athlete the athleticism improves. Bigger guys are faster than they were 20 years ago. LBJ is bigger and faster than Malone and Malone was a true 4 and LBJ is a true 3.

I said that LBJ was more athletic but the other dream teamers are right behind him.

To me Barkley and Malone were freaks back then. Now guys taller than them are faster and more athletic than them. They would still be greats, I just think anyone dismissing that athletes are more athletic now than 20 years ago are wrong.

Overall they are more athletic but not when you are talking the top6-8 of that generation.

Thank you. I've always felt the athleticism argument was a lame one. As though the guys in '92 were just lazy slobs who never saw the inside of a gym. We're not talking about John Havlicek lighting up a Marlboro Red on the bench during time outs.

I think people may be downplaying how badly he would abuse Kobe, while also shutting him down. Kobe's a good defender, but MJ was on another level by that point in his career from a defensive standpoint. He'd be a three-time loser in the mental game, as MJ would have trash-talked him to the point of Kobe either slugging him or a teammate.

I conceded MJ>Kobe already. Especially 1992 MJ vs. 2012 Kobe.

I'd pay money(top dollar) to see those two go at it while in their respective primes. MJ never played the closest mirror image to himself so nobody knows how that would turn out. No way he locks him down. Not a chance. It's not like Reggie Miller, Joe Dumars, Clyde Drexler...shoot...Rex Chapman even scored on MJ so let's quit making MJ out like nobody could score on him. Plenty of people have. There's no doubt in my mind that Kobe would score on him also.

The trash talk between those two would have been epic. I think they both would try to fight like it's 1989.

Posed this question to my son, who is 22 and a huge NBA fan. He didn't even bat an eye while responding, "Seriously? 92 would crush 2012." I then asked about Barkley's comment about only 3 from 12 team even making 92. He said, " sounds about right."

92 would beat 7/17/2012

It would be a great game between 92 and 1/19/2012.

Lebron would guard Barkley or Malone and Durant would guard Pippen. The 92 advantage inside is way overblown. Chandler could guard the Center and LBJ would have no issues guarding the PF. With a Healthy Howard the inside advantage wouldn't even be an advantage.

I'm a little late to this conversation, but LeBron would definitely get in foul trouble if he was guarding them, in my opinion.
