July 14, 201214 yr Author Just out of curiosity, how does a coach sabotage a game with that much talent on his team? Seems like even without MJ playing much they could beat Hurley, Webber, G. Hill, Penny, Montross.....If the Dream Team is so unbeatable against 2012 it shouldn't have mattered what Daly did in that first scrimmage. They still should have won. If Stockton, Malone, Magic, Bird, Robinson, Pippen, Barkley, Ewing can't beat those college kids without MJ then I think helps my point that the 2012 or 2008 team can beat them.

Another great Bird quote when talking about Webber's huge game in that scrimmage loss, "If that is what is coming into our league, I am glad that I'm retiring."
July 14, 201214 yr Author Another great Bird quote when talking about Webber's huge game in that scrimmage loss, "If that is what is coming into our league, I am glad that I'm retiring." I remember that quote. It was laugh out loud quality.

July 14, 201214 yr Author Watching the documentary Coach K was even saying that the game was thrown. Yeah, I saw it. It just is said that the coaches threw the game but the Dream Team was still mad. How did the players on the court lose is my question. That befuddles me. The players didn't throw it.
July 14, 201214 yr There is one point that has been missed during this entire discussion. Everyone has just assumed that Kobe and Jordan would offset or cancel each other out, NO that would not happen. In 1992 MJ was at the top of his game at the age of 29, in 2012 Kobe is 33 with bad knees. Maybe a younger healthy Kobe could go it with Jordan at some point in his career, but no one on 2012 could match up to the greatness of MJ at 29 in his prime. The guys on 2012 may very well all end up in the HoF, but except for Bird and a lesser extent Magic the 92 team is a team of All-Time greats in their prime.
July 14, 201214 yr I don't think anyone would argue that the 92 team is the greatest ever assembled as far as historical prospective of careers. The only argument is some of their all time greats were a little past their prime and the current guys are far superior athletically. Just like 20 years from now if their is still a national team with the best guys they will be far superior athletically than this batch of greats.

Just like 20 years from now if their is still a national team with the best guys they will be far superior athletically than this batch of greats. Only Bird and Magic were at or near end of their careers, Jordan and Barkley were 29, four years younger than Kobe is today. Malone, Stockton, Drexler, Mullen, Robinson, Ewing, Pippen were all in the prime of their careers, most played for at least 8 years past the Olympics. Average age of 92 team was 29 average age of 12 team is 27...not too much difference there.
July 14, 201214 yr What they did against International competition is irrelevant. They lost a 1 game scrimmage to college kids. It's not like this team couldn't beat them. I'd take the 92 team in a series, but I don't think it would be a 4-0 sweep. Key word scrimmage!

No one in the world can match up with MJ at 29. I considered that matchup in MJ's favor and assumed everyone else did. No one has said that matchup would be a wash. Have they? I didn't in the last 5 months. I don't think Hammer did either. If you know of any bigger Kobe guys than us then point them in our direction.
July 14, 201214 yr Author Key word scrimmage! Then why was the Dream Team so mad after the scrimmage and why was it never verified that the college select team won until 2012? It's just a scrimmage right?
July 14, 201214 yr Author Isaiah did what he wanted to against Magic and Stockton. I don't see why any of the three point guards in 2012 couldn't do the same.

I think people may be downplaying how badly he would abuse Kobe, while also shutting him down. Kobe's a good defender, but MJ was on another level by that point in his career from a defensive standpoint. He'd be a three-time loser in the mental game, as MJ would have trash-talked him to the point of Kobe either slugging him or a teammate.

I have seen it several times that 12 is superior athletically than 92. Do we not remember how athletic Jordan, Pippen, Drexler, Malone, Barkley, and Robinson was at that time.
July 14, 201214 yr I'm late to the party, but will give my two cents. The 92 team had 11 future hall-of-famers on the squad. The 12 team isn't going to have that. Guys like Drexler and Malone are often overlooked, and they're both hall of fame players who came off the bench in 92. 92 team was plenty athletic, had two great post players in their prime, had great individual defensive players, and had maybe the best player ever in his prime. I'd take 92 in a series 4 games to 0 and feel pretty good about it. If they played 100 times, 12 could probably get them once or twice.
