Ohio State will never win another National Championship in football

Featured Replies

As long as the current system stays in place. Those are the words of one of my best friends, who just happens to be a huge Ohio State fan. He claims the current system favors warm climate schools, and that as long as the current system remains in place, and the BCS championship is always played in a dome or a warm climate city, the colder climate schools will be at a huge disadvantage. What does everyone think of his logic?

Strongly disagree....OSU will be back in the title game within the next 4 years and win it.....

I HATE tOSU, but I have to disagree. It's happened before, so stupid logic IMO

To be fair, since the inception of the BCS (13 games) there has only been one cold climate school that won the BCS National Championship. Just a coincidence or is LRCW's friend on to something?

No coincidence...your best athletes come from warm climate states that allow those players to play year round. Warm climate schools have more opportunity to recruit those types of players. SEC schools dominate because most of thier players come from the south. Those cold climate schools need to leave the snow and recruit players south of the river.

That has been a theory kicked around by Cowherd and others for the past 5-6 years. I think it makes sense, but I do not fully buy that it eliminates all Big 10 teams or other "cold climate" schools. Oregon had a good shot last year and for the foreseeable future. Not exactly blistery weather. If anything teams like tOSU have had an advantage because frankly the Big 10 has not been as good and without a conference title game. The biggest battle is just getting to the game. Anything can happen in a one game scenario.

I guess it depends on what is considered cold climate. Oklahoma can be bitterly cold, and so can Oregon. In addition, I disagree for the mere fact that a dominant school in an otherwise down conference (USC, Virginia Tech, Ohio St. in some years) has an almost unfettered path to the title game. If you go undefeated, you're in. Seems to me it is actually easier for a Big 10 school to make the title game than an SEC school.

What your friend should rephrase his statement to say is that 18 year-old kids from the traditionally dominant high school markets (read: LA, Florida, Texas), all other things being equal, are going to choose warm climate schools over cold climate schools. That's really what is going on here. Kids want the beach and blond bikinis, not shoveling snow from their car.

Is he saying wearher hurts OSU regardless of where their players are or is he saying weather impacts recruiting?

Climate allows southern players to be more athletic. It's a scientific fact, and if it isn't it should be.

Oregon gets the majority of their playmakers from out of state. James, both Thomas kids, Barner, etc. all from out of state, Cali or Texas.

As much as I wish it was true, I don't see it happening. Meyer will get a title before he is done at Ohio State.

Has nothing to do with playing in a dome / warm climate and has everything to do with kids not wanting to go to places where it's 10 degrees in Dec. Why do you think Nebraska is no longer relevent? Would you rather go to South Beach or Nebraska?

How many "cold climate teams" have made it to the championship game?

In December or September, oh wait you're right the answer is the same no matter what time of the year it is. I'm wearing my sunglass at the beach not in the corn fields if I have a choice in the matter.

It's basically the arguement over who has the best confrence is football. SEC without a doubt. Warm weather, big, strong and fast athletes. It has nothing to do with BCS "favoring" anyone IMO.

Weather does play a part in in more so in baseball.

Until the cold weather teams refuse to play at a warm weather school without getting a reurn home game things will not change.
