Not a better big game coach than Meyer. The battle is getting to the game and he can take care of the rest. They can secure enough talent to do that.

Very good point. Anything can happen in a title game when you have more than a month to prepare.

There facilities are up there with the best in the country. Ohio is also loaded with football talent each year so if he locks down the state and get the best players in ohio and then add a few out of state prospects each year he should have no problem competing at the highest level.

Think about what Urban went from to where he is now. Before in his confrence he had Tenn, SC, Geo rotating shot at Bama, LSU, Auburn etc. Couple of out of confrence games + the SEC Championship. Now he will get almost every good kid in Ohio. Penn St is in shambles so he'll pull good kids from Penn. He has the high school ties in the south to recruit the dirty south. To me the only legit program he faces right now is Wisconsin. Penn St is a mess. Mich might be on the upswing but they aren't the Mich powerhouses of the past. Neb is nice but not the old Neb. Some if not most of those teams I don't even think they play every year. All the realignment has me confused on that one. So he still gets stud players and the schedule is WAY easier! Climate doesn't effect that. The only thing I could see is a kid from Fla not wanting to leave the sunshine to be cold.

I guess it depends on what is considered cold climate. Oklahoma can be bitterly cold, and so can Oregon. In addition, I disagree for the mere fact that a dominant school in an otherwise down conference (USC, Virginia Tech, Ohio St. in some years) has an almost unfettered path to the title game. If you go undefeated, you're in. Seems to me it is actually easier for a Big 10 school to make the title game than an SEC school.

 

What your friend should rephrase his statement to say is that 18 year-old kids from the traditionally dominant high school markets (read: LA, Florida, Texas), all other things being equal, are going to choose warm climate schools over cold climate schools. That's really what is going on here. Kids want the beach and blond bikinis, not shoveling snow from their car.

 

I agree. Unless Michigan continues to improve OSU will play for the title 2 of the next 5 years. Even if they are a 7 point dog or more both games I can't help but think Meyer can win one of those 2 games. OSU will continue to get chances b/c it's easier to navigate the Big 10 than the SEC.

Michigan typically relies on getting some of Ohio's prospects. I'm also interested to see how tough Meyer's presence will make it for Hoke to raid the Buckeye state for top recruits.

 

I agree that if he can dominate the recruiting in the Big Ten that he sets himself up well to get to a title game. But, I don't really feel like coaching has been the issue for Ohio State and others in their losses to the SEC.

I hate OSU with a passion but I completely disagree with that logic.

 

I personally hope those losers never win the Big 10 again, but unfortunately, I have to admit that Urban Meyer is an amazing coach. Heck, he had a team at Utah that was good enough to compete for a national title - no reason he can't do bigger and better things at Cobumus.

Another thought - Meyer killed it when he was at Florida. He has the Southern recruiting ties to bring plenty of talent North to OSU.

Meyer may recruit Florida well, but UF, FSU, and Miami will always get the cream, though, he'll probably get the best of the dregs.

Since Meyer has had the job here are a few recruting names that are new on OSU's radar:

 

DE Noah Spence (6’4 230 Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt)

Considering: Ohio State, Penn State, USC, Miami, Florida, Maryland, North Carolina State, Pitt and some others

Outlook: Spence is a 5-star prospect and a call from Meyer certainly got his attention. Enough said as to why Spence is suddenly so high on this list.

 

WR Joel Caleb (6’3 200 Midlothian, Va./Clover Hill)

Considering: Ohio State, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Florida, Florida State, Georgia and Clemson

The Skinny: Virginia Tech won’t be easy to beat, but Meyer’s hire has definitely peaked Caleb’s interest. He will be in Columbus for an official visit this weekend. The Bucks are in good shape at WR in this class, but Caleb is too good to pass up.

 

ATH Cyrus Jones (5’10 180 Baltimore, Md./Gilman)

Considering: Ohio State, Alabama, Auburn, Virginia Tech and Maryland

The Skinny: Meyer called Jones on Wednesday night and afterwards Jones said the Buckeyes are one of his top choices and he plans to visit Ohio State.

 

DE/LB Dante Fowler (6’3 240 Saint Petersburg, Fla./Lakewood)

Considering: Committed to Florida State but considering Ohio State, Florida and Clemson

The Skinny: Meyer had a great relationship with Fowler when Meyer was a Gator. After receiving a call from Meyer on Tuesday Fowler said he would make an official visit to OSU, but some in state Sunshine State say they don’t see Fowler leaving his home-state.

 

DB A.J. Leggett (5’11 175 Miami, Fla./South Miami)

Considering: Committed to Miami but interested in Ohio State, Florida State and Marshall

The Skinny: Leggett’s coach coached current Buckeyes’ Travis Howard and Etienne Sabino when they were in high school. Leggett says if Meyer asks him to visit he will.

 

DB Yuri Wright (5’10 185 Ramsey, N.J./Don Bosco)

Considering: Ohio State, Michigan, Rutgers, Cal, Georgia and Colorado

The Skinny: Wright has said if the Buckeyes come calling he will definitely listen.

Really? I think I forgot that in the 4 months since it happened. But really, I wasn't knocking what OSU did, it was very impressive. But the original poster of this thread was 100% correct when they said OSU would never win another title in the (at the time) current system.
