vor, I certainly respect your opinion, but, I dont see that BWood team ever beating Mayfield 9 out of 10 times. IMO, they played as well as they possibly could have played tonight and still came up short. Yes, Davis got hurt and that hurt Bwoods passing game, but, losing SethClifton, Mayfields best lineman along with Labront Scott being at about 1/2 speed for 3 1/2 qtrs, were just as big a blows as anything theTigers lost. Even without Scott and Clifton, the Cards held Bwood to 10 yds total offense in the 2nd half, with exception to the last drive where Nussbaum picked up a couple of nice runs. BWood had a bigger and stronger line, but, not as quick and certainly, even with that, didnt dominate the trenches, even with Clifton out. Other than the line play I thought Mayfield had the superior team. Guhy tried to go too deep too often and Bwood did a great job defending it, but, the shorter routes were getting the Cards 5-8 yds every time, but, for some reason, they went completely away from it. You can say Jackson beat them, and, he sure had a terrific game, but, it wasnt always Jackson making big stops in space where it appeared the Tigers had 1st downs. Mayfields closing speed on the ball is just that good. You didnt see the Labront Scott that we've seen all year either. Hes a dominating DE vs the run and pass. I respect how good the Tigers are, but, in no way shape , form or fashion, would I ever favor them over this Mayfield team.

 

True, 9 of 10 is hype on my part.

 

I will disagree about the receivers including Higginson. The one big play was in large part due to catching the Beechwood defense napping on a quick snap while the defense was still being called in. Besides that, Beechwood shut down the passing game. So much so that Mayfield just gave up on it for most of the second half. Personally, I would say it would have been nice if Mayfield would have continued throwing the ball more. I would have taken that over Jackson running it.

 

I will also have to disagree with comparing the loss of Davis to Scott playing with a tight hammy and Clifton going out in the 4th quarter. Losing Davis eliminated the Beechwood passing offense and also had a big impact on the running game. Your defense with LB's keying on the backs is perfectly built to stop the wildcat and that was what Beechwood had left to run with Davis out. Against lesser teams, including New Cath, Beechwood was able to rely on talent to be effective with the wiildcat as the main offense but not against the great defense of Mayfield.

 

I will trust your opinion on Scott.

 

I also agree about your defensive closing speed and attacking the ball. The whole team is excellent and even more so, great discipline in their roles. But Jackson is such a difference maker that I feel Beechwood would have been much more effective offensively. It only takes 3 yards more on a play here and there to make a big difference. But that is all speculation and opinion that really isn't worth much focus because everyone is going to believe what they believe on that.

I hope that Bw kicker and punter is a senior, that kid is good. I hope he is playing on Saturdays. I hear alot about Vocke on offense but he has never got many carries against us or had many yards. I doubt he has a 100 yards total in the last 3 years against us but on defense he was the best cover guy I have watched this year. Is his future as a db in college? Is the Bw qb okay? He appeared to be in substantial pain and never returned. Hope he is okay

How did you find out that the officials were ALL MAYFIELD GRADUATES? And we paid them extra if they would (take the game away from Beechwood.) We also told them a bonus was in store if they would make a call at the end of the game that would cost Beechwood the game! Who snitched on us!! Give me a break! Like I said in an earlier post, you are such a hater!

I also heard one official was also head postmaster of the Mayfield post office. and another one was running for city council. Why does it matter where the officials were from? Does anyone believe in football, today, there are actually officials that would intentionally cheat a team based on location?

I think duke42 is a Beechwood fan so he may be showing his disappointment that Beechwood didn't get it done, but I agree that isn't the way to do it. I am having a hard time remembering a more disappointing loss.

Believe me VOR, we know the feeling. Danville had our number for so many years, and sometimes we thought we had the better team. Seems like one year a kid blocked an extra point to beat us, I think his name was Redd. When we finally beat them in the semi-finals it was so sweet. I have so much respect for your team and you guys have so much to be proud of. One day the Tigers will get that win and it will be such a relief to you guys. The Tigers have a very great program and I look forward to many more great games between them and the Cardinals.:thumb:
