Don't know. A lot of pieces to put together for next year and what to do at QB tops the list.

As I said above, there are no guarantees Beechwood wins. However, in reply to your comments above:

 

1. Beechwood only had Davis for one or two of those 5 second half drives so that skews the stats a little on what may have happened with him back there in the second half.

 

2. The defender on the long TD pass was beaten by a perfect throw by Davis. He fell down diving to try and get to Everett as he caught the ball. It was an excellent play by Beechwood that beat the Mayfield defense.

 

3. First series of the game Cruse was 10 yards behind the Mayfield defense and appeared to misjudge what would have been a 50 yard TD catch in the end zone, as the ball fell off his finger tips right in front of him as he stood in the end zone waiting for the ball.

 

4. Beechwood's run offense was at its best running out of the power I with Davis at QB and Nussbaum at tailback. When Davis went out and Nussbaum moved to QB, Beechwood lost what had been its most successful offensive set all night.

 

My point being, Beechwood had some success in this game with Davis at QB so I would have expected more of at least that level of success with him at QB the whole second half. But he wasn't there and it is all speculation. Mayfield very well may have stuffed Beechwood with him back there. But as I said above, the odds are much better for Beechwood with Davis at QB.

 

 

I was more concerned when Nassbaum (I pray I have spelled it right this time or Emperor may go get some clothes) was in the wildcat, my fear was that he was a threat to go at anytime. I still feel that odds were better of him getting loose at some point. Just my personel view. Either way, Bw had under 200 yards and only 4 first downs with 2 of them comming on the final drive with NBomb (I think this is a good nickname for him). The bulk of Davis passing yards were on the 1 long pass and I was not real concerned with the Bw passing attack despite the TD pass. I still say that Bw lost this game because you guys were not balanced and to get back on top I think Bw has to adapt

I would be shocked if Nussbaum is not on some 1-AA school's radar as a potential safety. Kid runs well , hits well, plays hard.

I heard he is getting feelers from a couple SEC schools. He needs to add some more weight, but the kid is a D1 player at safety IMO.

You are right. He didn't fall down until after the ball was caught.

 

It took a great open field tackle by Shane Ross on Nussbaum to prevent Beechwood from scoring. His last big run had us all scared that he was going to score.

Hard to say. But there is no doubt the odds of completing any pass go up multiple times over with Davis at QB. Nussbaum probably threw 20 passes all season and he probably completed 6 or 7 including screens. I can only recall mayebe 3 completed passes down field by Nussbaum. Plus, Mayfield's game winning TD drive starter in Beechwood territory after an interception of a Nussbaum pass. Mayfield's defense is great and Beechwood wasn't moving the ball much with Davis at QB so no guarantees. Just a lot better odds for Beechwood.

 

I will say I think Beechwood learned something about playing Mayfield in that last drive. IMO, Beechwood needs to install some spread offense if they want to beat Mayfield. Spread them out, look for the quick pass and if it isn't there tell your QB (assuming he is a typical Beechwood running QB) to take off. The best offense Beechwood had all night was Nussbaum running out of the shotgun in passing situations. Also, the last team to put it to Mayfield was LCA and they do nothing but the spread. Mayfield likes to stack the box and they are all fast. You are not going to be able to run it at them unless you spread that speed out and find ways to get them out of the box. That's my opinion.

 

 

There is certainly something to this. The last time Mayfield was seriously threatened at home, Paducah Tilghman 2010, QB took off down the field on multiple occasions - picking up large chunks of yardage in the process. This was done mainly in the 1st half of that game, and appeared to be more of an improvising tool than part of the game plan. Tilghman played it more cautiously in the 2nd half and it probably cost them the game last year.

I know the feeling, I felt that way about the title game score but after reflection I realized that the season still exceeded my expectations and I am now good with it and can't wait to begin the 2012 Redemption Campaign

He definitely has the potential. I also agree with your point about his weight.
