The only 2 teams from NKy that Mayfield has ever played are Beechwood and NCC and they're 4-0 vs BWood and 2-1 vs NCC, losing in the 06 state to NCC..

I believe that's correct. It was in mid 80's, I do know that much. Both those games were very close, hard fought games.

Here is the crux of the game - Beechwood is #2 in the state with 656 points scored averaging 50.5 points per game. Mayfield is #1 in the state in points allowed giving up only 77 points, an average of 6 points per game.

 

Beechwood has never beaten Mayfield. Mayfield is the Highlands of Western Ky. They have a great program and a very long history of winning. They are not too far behind the Bluebirds in all time wins. Beechwood will need to play their best game of the year to win Friday night.

Took the team down the night before in 2009 and it was a disaster. You can't blame it all on the overnighter because Mayfield clearly had a better team that year, but I don't think anyone at Beechwood thought the overnighter was a good move. No one ever sleeps good their first night in a hotel and too much down time in a foreign environment waiting all day for game time to get here.

It's not been any one team thats knocked them off in the semis, it's been several. In the early 00s, Danville was on the west side of the state in 1a and they did it a few times, in the 70s, 80s and 90s, i can remember Green Co one year, Harrodsburg one year, Ft Knox a time or 2, Bardstown once, Bullitt East once, these are just off the top of my head. Prior to 1995, Mayfield played AA..

Pulling for the Cardinals in this one, I think home field advantage and the Mayfield defense will be too much to overcome for Beechwood.

Beechwood doesn't two platoon but they do a lot of rotation of players. No one plays 100% of all offensive and defensive plays but there are a couple pretty close. In this game, there will be maybe 3 or 4 players that will play the vast majority of plays on both sides of the ball. Beechwood is probably about as close to a two platoon team that you will see in 1A.
