I realize that I am looking through "cardinal-colored" glasses, but I do not see Beechwood winning this game. Everyone talked about our explosive offense last year, but the truth is, our defense was really good too. This year, everyone is talking about how good the defense is, and rightly so...but our offense is really good too. My question is, is Beechwood vastly improved from last year? because it will take an upgraded Tiger team to beat a Cardinal team that is not too far behind last year's squad.

Also, Mayfield proved last year that the long drive is not a factor in winning the game...at this time of year, true champions win the game no matter where it is played. All of this is said with great respect for the Beechwood program....if Mayfield loses, there is no shame in losing to the Tigers because they have consistently been one of the best teams in the state regardless of classification.

As others have posted, both teams, coaches and fans have the highest respect for each other and there is definitely no shame in losing this game. It sounds like this is a match up of strengths. Both teams are excellent on both sides of the ball, but the best side of Beechwood's team is the offense and the best side of Mayfield's is their defense. Strength on strength there. It is going to be a hard fought battle between coaches' game planning and players executing on the field. As it is in most close games between evenly matched teams, turnovers will play a big role and whoever wins the turnover battle will likely win the game. It is going to be a fun week and even more fun Friday night watching these teams compete. High school football at its best.

On the turnover front, that is about the only thing Mf did poorly in against LHC. We must not repeat that or we will be buying tickets in BG. VoR you are a huge fan of Bw so I hope you get to make it down but I would not fault anyone that does not given the distance

I know we are not the travel team this year and certainly most years these two programs have been the best and that is a trend that is likely to continue so surely the KHSAA would want this game played in BG. I wish they would do somthing to change Bw to the east since there is no way to move Mf there. I would really like it if they did it before next year

I agree, Rookie. If the Tigers come in and beat this team, that'll be a hell of an accomplishment and I'll tip my cap and give credit where credit is due. I honestly believe either of these teams would win 2a and quite possibly 3a this year.

 

I don't have much doubt that either could win 2A. As far as 3A goes, they could beat many of them, but I don't think either could beat Central.

I think you're dead on. Just can't fathom how Beechwood makes up the 3 touchdown deficit they were beaten by at home last year or the 5 td's they lost by last time they made the 5 hr trip west. Considering Mayfield's D is the best in recent memory (77 points allowed - best in KY) , and it was pretty dog gone good the last 2 years with the Tigers avg. a meager 7 pts a game. 3 or 4 touchdowns for the home team should be enough to get the job done. If the Beechies come down to the corn fields and chicken farms of WKY looking like they've crossed the border into another country as they did 2 years ago, this game will end by halftime. By season's end, Cards will continue to distance themselves from the rest of the teams in 1A, and the gap is pretty wide currently. Vocke still gets his, would not be surprised to see him bring a punt or kickoff return back for 6. 31-14 Mayfield.
