They definitely need to play somewhere other than Holmes. No one wants a light failure in a state semifinal game. If CCH had lights, that would be where they should play considering they are both Diocese schools. Scott seems to be the best fit for this game but someone mentioned construction at Scott. What is going on there? Their football field is all done right? Is it construction on the new road?

 

Don't want to have a state semifinal game where the fans have to use port-a-lets! Koz and AD will be making calls to finalize location. Grass field at Holmes and potential bad weather not a good mix. Holmes has fixed their light problem with a sizable investment into property after game with HC. Situation was fine for 1st playoff game with Carroll County. I would speculate that HC would rather find a turf field to take advantage of it's speed.

NCC was my clear favorite to win the title...now it is Somerset....

I'm pretty sure we saw the state title game tonight. The Breds didn't come prepared, and Holy Cross took advantage. Slants, Flats, and screens all night. If that's all you have to do though, why not. I wish Holy Cross the best of luck, and hope they take home state.

 

I'm glad to know that. I'll make sure and pass that on to the Somerset kids. They can save a lot of time in practice this week and in gas money on Friday--sounds like we should just stay home.

Yes, this is the first regional championship for HC and the first time they beat NCC in the playoffs.

Yes it is. This Holy Cross team in its history. Most wins with 10 previous was 8. Farthest in play offs, previous was they Lost reginal to NCC last year.

Going for it on 4th and 10 was a really gutsy call and it paid off

 

I don't think it was gutsy, Newcath's soft cushion on pass D was giving up WAY TOO MUCH to not go for it. NewCath should have done what HC defense was doing and stacking the line. Giving up 300 plus yards passing, I'd like to know how many passes that actually went 10 yards beyond the LOS? I'm thinking it had to be less than 10, and I'm being generous.

Fuller had one pass of 60, but the great majority were "catch and run" in the "West Coast" style...quick outs, screens, etc. That first TD pass to Beal was a good example. He had a full head of steam going when he caught the pass and sped ahead past several defenders for the score. I think HC knew it had to come out in a different offensive mindset than the first game. In the first game, Fuller got several throws deep in the first half and spent the 2nd half scrambling for his life. NCC wanted to shut down deep routes again and rely on their pass rush. Last night, the HC coaching staff wanted Fuller to be more decisive; hence, the quick throws and the trusting that receivers were going to be open where he put the ball. That plus the threat to run QB draws negated the NCC pass rush. Late in the game, NCC CBs were sneaking forward in coverage. One almost made an INT of a backward pass that might have changed the course of the game. Shortly thereafter Fuller saw what the CBs were doing and dropped a deep out to Walker that led to a score. It was all adjustments. In the first game, adjustments were made by NCC. Last night, it was HC that made the effective adjustments.

HC's D really impressed me, NCC had alot of negative plays.

 

Number 6 from New Cathis a player, and probably should have got the ball a litle more once the run was working aswellas it normally does.

 

I been trying to tell people for a few weeks that I love what Holy Cross does on defense, and why I liked them to win this game. They used their athletes they had and took chances and played man and even cover 0 without a safety sometimes and brought the house. They were aggresive and made NCC have to make plays while being under attack. I loved that style, and is the reason why they won. They were aggresive and took chances all night long.

Agreed. I'm guessing NCC would have punted there because of their experience and knowing how to win games like that. On the flp side it probably was the right call for HC.

I think that it is now. All it takes is one big win and things get rolling. All of a sudden you don't lose due to the name on the front of the jersey, you realize that you can beat those kids w/ names on the back of their jerseys. Look at NewCath - Beechwood in '00. NewCath had beaten Beechwood one time prior, but shocked them in the playoffs, and the program has skyrocketed since. Beechwood still owns the series, but the games are always very close and NewCath wins at a about a 50% clip now. Unfortunately, we may see the same thing here.
