Best Route to Frankfort from NKY

Featured Replies

Does anyone know the best way to get from NKY to KSU in Frankfort? I looked on Google Maps and they had three options to choose from. Btw, I was surprised to see the fastest option being via I-71.

Option 1: Take 71 down to 127 and go through Owenton to Frankfort. (84.2mi, 1:35)

Option 2: Take 75 to Dry Ridge. Then take 22 over to 127 and go on down that way. (86.1 mi, 1:41)

Option 3: Take 75 all the way to Georgetown. Then take 460 over to Frankfort. (90.3mi, 1:43)

The KSU website says to go all the way to Lexington and take 64 over to Frankfort.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I used to make this drive quite often. I had a really good college friend live in Frankfort and whenever I went to visit him I would take I-75 all the wait to 64. As the KSU website suggets.

I always went the 75 to 64 route.

I usually go with option 1.

Shortest route does not always translate to the fastest. You're only looking at a 6 mile difference between the three options you listed, but the more time you spend on the interstate, the faster you'll obviously be able to go.

As far as choosing a route...the only one I would disuade you from would be #2. Going from Dry Ridge to Owenton on 22 is not a road that I would encourage people to travel. I would doubt there's more 200 feet of road that is straight and level...it's all hills and curves.

If you'd like a nice leisurely ride, without having to deal with a lot of traffic in Georgetown or Lexington...then, I'm with Clyde. Take 71 to the Glencoe or Sparta exits and head to Owenton that way. Then it's a nice smooth ride on a really wide two-lane road the rest of the way to Frankfort.

Went last week and used #3. Very good route and saves time. Safe travels.

Option 3 is good. You can make the trip across 460 pretty quick.

Option 1 is what I use to go from Frankfort to NKY. Because of the Sparta race track, the road has been upgraded. As long as there is no construction on I71.

DO NOT go the 22 route from Dry Ridge. Not a good idea especially it it's raining. That road is terrible in the rain and many of the people on it drive way too fast.

When I go to Frankfort from Dry Ridge, I take 75 to 64. It's the easiest way.

I-71 to the Sparta exit is the best way to go. US 127 from there is a good, wide road, with plenty of places to pass if you get behind some slowpoke, and you're not going to make up that much time going the interstate the whole way for it to be worth the boredom and lack of scenery.

22 is a terrible stretch of road.

Been to Frankfort past 4 years to scout and we always go Option #3 and it is an easy ride. Less traffic and always make good time good luck. JD

Seems to be a tie between options 1 & 3. Maybe I should post a poll.

Thanks for all the advice!

I like option 3. The 75-64 route is 7 miles longer according to Mapquest, but it feels longer than that to me driving it. Plus I kind of like that little drive through Georgetown over to Frankfort.

I have taken Option 1 before and it is ok. I don't like driving it at night though.
