Kyle Pierce. He has Edmonson Co 10-0 and has done a great job (and has for several years) with very limited resources.

Always an interesting debate. Coach of the team that does a little more than expected when expectations are lofty? Coach of the team that does a lot more than expected when expectations are middle-of-the-road?

 

There would have to be compelling reasons not to award Coach Beatty this time around.

You can't be serious. Any moron can coach a team that's bought and paid for. A complete embarrassment to the khsaa and everyone that does things the right way.

 

And any moron can hide behind an internet name to make absolutely false and completely unsubstantiated charges on a message board. If people would bother to look into how financial aid is awarded at private schools they would be absolutely embarassed by the things they have written. On the topic of the thread, Coach Beatty expected to have a very good team. Taking that team through the schedule they have playyed is worthy of Coach of the year.

That's why I think Chris Tracy from Franklin County should get a whole lot of consideration. I think people expected them to be good, but I'm not sure anyone expected the results they have produced.

Owen County; 61 wins and 146 losses since 1990 before this year. 1991 was their last winning season at 6-5. That's a winning percentage of 29% over the last 21 seasons and a 5% 'winning season' percentage in that same time period. Don't hold me to this statistic but I think at least 6 other coaches not counting Coach Fowler. Owen County is a tough place to win let alone...UNDEFEATED.

 

This should be a "no brainer". Congratulations Owen County and Coach Fowler; hands down the MOST deserving candidate for Coach of the Year.

Who votes for this? If it is the press then Beatty will win hands down due to the National exposure that his team will garner. This because of possibly the toughest schedule in the country.

To have the guts to put your program in the National spotlight against that schedule for all to watch and then run the table the way T has then he deserves this more then a newby coach or a coach at a program who is suppose to win yr in yr out. COY should go to a coach that when you look at what he did one says "WOW" thats impressive.

Besides, Beatty runs the table and COY in KY will be nice but COY in USA will be better and probably forthcoming as well. JMO

Even though many think that winning with Trinity is easy, I'd like to throw out some points for consideration for Coach Beatty this year:

 

1) Schedule-Despite the obvious talent on this Trinity team, when the schedule was released, with all it's out of state match ups and OOS powers listed, no one predicted a sweep of OOS teams. In fact, many (if not most) of us considered the very real possibility that we could be 0-5 to begin the Kentucky games.

2) Focus-Trinity pretty much has an above-average team in most years. What is the variable each year is the team-focus and total committment. This year, Coach Beatty has somehow been able to keep his team focused and driving forward furiously. With the talent on the team, I'd argue that it's a difficult task to have the players stay that focused win after win. In fact, after the Cincy X game, I remember him being quoted in the C-J that the score reflected the lack of focus in the week's practice. They were able to pull out the win in that game, but his point must have been well received.

3) Coaching-Frankly, I have hated the tight first halves this season. :lol: They always come out with new energy and focus in the 2nd half and pull away tremendously. But the half-time coaching adjustments seem much more obvious this season than in seasons past, IMO.

 

None of the above mean that I think that he's automatically the Coach of the Year for 2011. I just wanted to throw out some points of consideration. This has to be a tough pick every year, with the number of football-playing schools in Kentucky. Many coaches have incredible success with much less talent and resources than Trinity. But, sometimes more talent doesn't equate to more success. I cannot legitimately argue against any of the others posted here so far. All are definitely worthy of consideration. And even if Coach Beatty isn't the COY in 2011, he's still tops in the Rock book!

If you trully look at Trinitys schedule, its not near as strong as most would have thought going into the season.. MBA is 5-5 and 3 losses of more than 40 points.. Elder ended 2-8 and didn't make the playoffs.. Mohler lost there last 3 games of the year.. Cincy St X had 3 losses with 1 to Louisville St X.. Male may have it's weakest team in a long, long time and ended with a losing record.. St X is not the St X of the past few years.. Brendwood Academy and Indy Cath most likely were there best wins and even they had 5 losses between them.. I am, in no way saying they didn't play a stout schedule, because most of the teams they did play are traditional powerhouses.. I'm just saying some of those teams aren't what they normally are and are having subpar years in comparison to what they normally have..

Coach McKee accomplished something impressive with his program in Scott County this year. He has all 3 Scott County middle schools using a variation of his system so the players know it when they reach high school. This year, not only did the Frosh, JV and Varsity teams all have undefeated regular seasons, but Scott County Middle School 7th and 8th grade teams both went undefeated, and Georgetown Middle School's teams only lost to SCMS. Not sure how Royal Springs did, but that's kind of success 7th grade through Varsity is note worthy.
