I understand other coaches have done good things as well. But, Trinity's doing things in a manner rarely parrelled in state history. And, they're doing it against a competition level that far exceeds what every other Kentucky school faces week in and week out.

There are plenty of coaches deserving, but my choice would be Coach Fowler of Owen County. I know that the district isn't the best, but going undefeated and finishing their second half of the regular season as impressive as they did gives him my vote. Another thing to think about is that the last time Owen had a winning record was back in '90 or '91 and it was 6-5.

Beatty? Mueller? Wallace?

Coach Fowler has totally changed the football culture at OC. The class of 2012 were freshmen when he came to Owen County. The year before that was possibly the worst year Owen County Football ever had in terms of record, moral, discipline, you name it and this year they are undefeated and the boys and fans are having the times of their lives. I don't know enough about the other coaches mentioned on here to know if Coch Fowler deserves coach of the year or not but he has definately done a great job.

Lickert- District champs at Campbell County in his first year, and is starting to completely change the football atmosphere in Alexandria.

Campbell- Anybody who can win more than a couple games at Scott deserves some recognition. He does a lot with those kids and they have showed a lot of improvement since he has been there.

Wirth- He brought CovCath back to a level that they should be every year.

Dale- Same deal as the last four years

You can't play this level of competition and have the success they've had and not win COY.

This is the best reason for Beatty that I have read so far. I say Beatty.

I just don't think there's a coach in the state who does more with less than Jerry Herron at Williamsburg. His Jackets are the second smallest football playing school in the state, but have won 4 out of the last 5 district titles, and are always competetive. In all the years I've followed the Burg I cant remember them dressing more than 26, and despite adversity and injuries (which are huge at a single a school) he still inspires his kids to be successful.

You are correct in what Beatty has accomplished. There are however more than one way to determine COY. There are coaches out there that have accomplished things with far less resources than those that are avaliable at Trinity. Is that a knock on Beatty? No I think there are a lot of deserving coaches Sharp @ Russell Co., Fowler @ Owen, Houston @ Ohio Co just to name a few. I think we are too quick to not recognize some of the fine coaching jobs done around the state. Now could these coaches accomplish what Beatty has accomplished at Trinity? Not for sure but it isn't a given that he could do what they have done with far fewer resources.

As for the Beatty issue: In order for him to NOT be Coach of the Year, you would have to make a compelling arguement that if someone else had been coaching at T this year that they would have done a better job.

You can't be serious. Any moron can coach a team that's bought and paid for. A complete embarrassment to the khsaa and everyone that does things the right way.

I love reading in this thread about the programs that have really turned around, the coaches who helped make that happen, the change in "football culture" at those schools and the community excitement being experienced (one of the coolest things I've experienced around high school football was watching the Allen County-Scottsville fans at last year's state game).

 

I don't want to start another thread on the number of classes we should have in Ky, but I wonder if some (many?) of these rather dramatic turn arounds would have occurred if we still had 4 classes.

Not to split hairs, but Williamsburg is actually the 7th smallest football playing school in the state. Eminence, Fulton City, Paris, Jenkins, Fulton County and Pineville are all smaller. But that in no way diminishes what Jerry Herron has done at Williamsburg. They are always solid.
