But HHS could have just had Towles take a couple of steps backwards before taking a knee on 2nd and 9 taking more that just a second or two off the clock. Don't pretend to think that Dale would have just had Towles take three straight knees making HHS to have to punt without doing something to make the clock run longer!

 

But don't you at least call the final two TO's to see how much time is left....you don't just concede the game because you think the other coach will come up with a genius play to run some extra clock.

That was the best game between these two teams since the miracle catch (for CC) game at Highlands, several years ago.

 

Now that I have time to get the adrenalin surge down, I have to agree with you.

Very impressed with Gray, he has some jack hammer feet. CovCath's offensive line is huge which begs the question, why don't they have a package that's not shotgun? Sure they can run out of the gun but with that line why not just line those hogs up and pound it when it's 1 and goal from inside the one.

Forgotten play of the game: Partially blocked extra point by Cov Cath that sneaked over the crossbar. If it misses, Cov Cath doesn't have to go for two and they kick a FG to tie!!!

Also thought the Highlands D was soft. Bruns is the big hitter but he like the rest of the Highlands secondary was caught up playing coverage today. What can ya say this was CovCath last year who came to Ft. Thomas but a year better and they are good. They did almost anything they wanted on offense. Obviously, ran the ball well but Bir also threw for what 3 TD's? CovCath got off to a slow start and it really hurt them. Highlands offense played very well Towels, the WR's, Harris they did their jobs. Collinsworth catch was huge and so was the the catch by the kid who caught the scramble pass across the middle. Will look forward to the re-match CovCath has a very potent spread offense.

WOW, so glad that I got to make this; one of the best games between Highlands and Cov Cath that I have saw in a long time and may be the best one of the season. I didn't have a dog in the fight, but it turned out to be a dogfight like games in the past. Cov Cath, your team played great and I loved the fight you put up, definitely was not backing down for nothing.

 

There were two exclamation points for me, as well as others likely in the game: 1)The defensive stand that Highlands had from their 1-yard line after the fumble and the time management by Cov Cath on their last drive before halftime. If not for one of these points or both, the result was very likely different.

 

I'm already hoping and looking forward to this one again in the postseason. I know that Lexington Catholic and Boyle still has to play this coming Friday, but the Colonels made a solid argument for #2 in the state for 4A.

On the "in the endzone or not in the endzone" call discussion.

 

Last week vs Beechwood a CovCath breakaway runner made a dive while nearing the endzone and his head, shoulders, and ball clearly landed right on the goal line - no knee involved in the play. Then here comes the officail badly trailing the play and out of position to make the spot, and he puts the ball on the one and a half yard line. Fortunately, it worked out correctly when COvCath scored on the very next play, but the official was obviously guessing whether he was in or not, and got it wrong.

 

Seems like something similar happened again today.

I looked up when CCH called the TO at the end of the half. Official made the right call even though he put too much time back on.

Not true about the clock. It was a first down and the clock should have stopped to move the chains immediately. CCH called time out when the clock should have been stopped. The clock did not stop at all.

I thought they got the clock/time correct. When the whistle blew, I immediatlely looked up at the clock and it was at 1.1 and continued to run down to 0.0. Not that it mattered but when they put time back on the clock, they put I believe 2.5 which was to much time but it didn't matter, they just needed 0.1 to attempt the FG.

For those of you harping on the under center vs. shot gun decision. Please name the number of drives inside the 5 that did not work for CovCath this year that resulted in a FG attempt? Fumbles don't count. I'm talking about series that resulted in a FG attempt because they did not score in 3 downs. I'll be waiting patiently for an answer.

Both defenses could not get off the field. CovCath wad 10/13 on 3rd down conversions and Highlands was 7/8. I can't remember a better 3rd down converstion percentage for a CovCath team. And they did it against Highlands. Seriously?

Blue boys have come a long way from a few years ago. Dave Wirth is a fine coach and the Colonel faithful should be happy he's on the sidelines.
