BF it was #17 Bowden and what bother/scared me for the young man, was the EMS staff stopped on the field on their way out and seemed to do some work on him as they were carting him out. Not sure what they were doing, but they stopped pushing him out and seemed as I said to work on him some!

 

Said a prayer for him at the time...HHS fans please let us know if the young man is OK!

Max Halpin, Bradley Way, Jake Henderson, Tim Connaughton and Daniel Sandfoss and Drew Bamberger is a backup. And Spencer Hemmer is the TE.

Not true about the clock. It was a first down and the clock should have stopped to move the chains immediately. CCH called time out when the clock should have been stopped. The clock did not stop at all.

 

The clock didn't stop but the side judge blew the whistle and looked up at the clock to see there was time left.

I just read this entire thread and the feel of it would make one think that CCH won. They did not win. thoughts from the game as I saw it:

 

Towles is a stud and ran very well, but he is human and fumbled and CCH recovered.

 

The CCH O-line is scary big and good. Wow! I would like to be their coach.

 

Gabe Gray is good and what's impressive about that is, he is a worker!

 

Carter New with several more big plays under his belt including the int. and tackle on a return late. If he doesn't make that tackle it's a TD.

 

Huge catches by wr's for both teams! CCH #11 had a good game for the Colonels! Receptions by McGhee & McGurn late in the game for HHS!

 

Would've like to have seen Harris get more carries.

 

Wirth & staff are very good!

 

Sickens me to see any player lie on the field. Glad Bowden is ok!

 

Birds really missed Rouse.

 

Evan Talkers is another D-1 kicker for CCH, but also is an exceptional athlete as well.

 

For the record, I knew it would be close and said so on that ridiculous "tap the breaks thread". An HHS fan asked me before the game why I didn't think we'd blow 'em out & I said they beat us most of the time when I was in high school so I never am confident or comfortable 'til it's over.

 

I think there were 6 fumbles total & CCH recovered 5. Wow!

 

All CCH fans/employees/workers I encountered were friendly & welcoming! Thanks for that & I hope we return the favor in the playoffs.

For those of you harping on the under center vs. shot gun decision. Please name the number of drives inside the 5 that did not work for CovCath this year that resulted in a FG attempt? Fumbles don't count. I'm talking about series that resulted in a FG attempt because they did not score in 3 downs. I'll be waiting patiently for an answer.

 

First time I've seen CCH play and their offense is more than capable of scoring in the red zone out of the gun but with those monsters up front it makes for a nice option to just line up and pound it. On 3rd down Bir did move from the gun for the direct snap in what appeared to be a quick count and fumbled the snap which led to the 4th down field goal. So many options in the run game under center opposed to the gun.

 

Great game from both teams. Each team made mistakes but neither team let those mistakes fester. It's not how many times you get knocked down, it's how many times you get back up after being knocked down. It's good to see this rivalry back, it makes NKY that much better.

It's a tradition for the offensive linemen on the Covington Catholic football team to have dinner at a parent's house the Thursday night before a game, but little did the linemen know where they went to dinner this past Thursday was in the house of a Highlands grad.

 

 

The linemen met for dinner at starting center Max Halpin's house on Thursday and while Halpin's dad is a CovCath grad, his mother, Kelly Owens, is a Highlands grad.

The two schools, which are clearly Northern Kentucky's most intense and best rivalry in football, will play each other at 1 p.m. today at Wooten Field in Park Hills in the Class 4A district opener for each.

"It's always a little weird to say my mom went to Highlands," said Halpin. "When people find out they're really surprised and even ask me, 'Who's she going to root for?

Most points given up by Highlands since 2005 losing to Colerain 45-14, St. X 45-0 and Desales 48-22. No NKY team has scored that many points against the Bluebirds since prior to 1998, when the KHSAA records begin online.

And I can't believe what I just saw. West Virginia just scored from the 2 yard line of LSU from the shot gun!!! Oh my!!!!

Well, this sure sounded like quite a game between two fierce competitors.

 

I think it's crazy for anyone to ever predict a blowout in this rivalry. Sure, they happen on occasion. But a lot more often than not these games seem to be competitive. Congrats to HHS on the big win and also a congrats to CCH for a game well-played. It sounds like a postseason rematch is very likely in the cards.

 

I about vomited listening to this game when CCH was driving late, but it is very important that Highlands get challenges like this during the regular season. Sure, the defense struggled today, but when it came down to gut-check time (like when CCH had the ball 1st and goal at the 1 after the HHS fumble, or the two-point conversion attempt that would cut the HHS lead to 3, or the last CCH drive of the game), the HHS players and coaches rose to the occasion.

 

Also, I realize there's a lot of football still to be played, but Patrick Towles should be the front-runner for Mr. Kentucky Football (especially given the fact that Trinity's big playmakers are underclassmen this year).
