So many options in the run game under center opposed to the gun.

 

What can be done under center run game wise that can't be done in the shot gun?

Question: Is Monday's Highlands-CovCath JV game at HHS or CCH? Is it at 6:30PM?

As for the 2 point conversion, I had a good angle and at first I thought he made it but then I realized it was a soccer line on the field. I think he was short by about a half yard. But that is just my personal opinion.

Was lucky enough to come home from the University of Kentucky this weekend for this incredible football game. As a CCH grad, can't say I was too impressed with the turnout of the student section for the HHS-CCH rivalry game, and I can say the same for HHS. It seems like the cheering sections get thinner each game I attend (perhaps it's only my imagination?).

 

Probably the best high school football game I've seen, since the year I was in the student section watching Bovard come down with the game-winner as time expired in Ft. Thomas. Not to sound like a broken record after the 65 times it's been mentioned on here, but Towles is incredible (I swear the kid looks like he takes 5 yard strides out there) and the CCH O-line/Gray combination is something in and of itself to watch.

 

Superb display by both squads and one for the ages. Can't say I was happy or satisfied with a loss, but it sure felt great to see two quality, rivaling, football programs go head-to-head. Wirth is getting the Colonels back on track in the football department, certainly.

 

Congrats to the Bluebirds. Hopefully, these two will meet again -- it'll be worth the trip home again.

I'm not saying you can't run out of the gun but the gun was invented with passing in mind. One negative is the RB in the gun aren't running downhill like they would be in a traditional set or even in the Pistol. Plays can take a bit longer to develop as well. Bottom line is that CCH does what they do well and were a hair away from an upset so apparently they are doing something well.

Who is the offensive line coach at CovCath? He has done a nice job with those lineman. I know you can't teach size but he must be doing some good things over there like the Magic Man Scott Turner does at Highlands. They move well and have good quick feet.

Very impressed with Gray, he has some jack hammer feet. CovCath's offensive line is huge which begs the question, why don't they have a package that's not shotgun? Sure they can run out of the gun but with that line why not just line those hogs up and pound it when it's 1 and goal from inside the one.

 

I kind of thought the same thing myself, especially about the size of the offensive line. When Highlands fumbled the ball in their own goal line around the 1-yard line, Cov Cath's quarterback should have been under center instead of in the gun.

Most points given up by Highlands since 2005 losing to Colerain 45-14, St. X 45-0 and Desales 48-22. No NKY team has scored that many points against the Bluebirds since prior to 1998, when the KHSAA records begin online.

 

 

What is up with that stat. Is Highlands missing something on Defense or what.

Just seems like the few games this yr that I have seen there just isnt that ticking time bomb mentallity on the defense side of the ball. Dont get me wrong, lots of great Highlands athletes and still the wins are coming but there is just something missing...........

One thing I forgot to mention yesterday.

 

HHS and their reputation intimidates a lot of teams right from the get-go which is understandable after winning championship after championship.

 

It didn't happen yesterday. That was refreshing.
