What is up with that stat. Is Highlands missing something on Defense or what.

Just seems like the few games this yr that I have seen there just isnt that ticking time bomb mentallity on the defense side of the ball. Dont get me wrong, lots of great Highlands athletes and still the wins are coming but there is just something missing...........

Wow!!!! Apparently a great game, wasnt there for it but got lots of updates. Congrats to the Birds on another win and great to see the Blueboys back on track.

 

They could use a few more Austin Abner, Brandon Roller Ty Seidl hitters that is for sure. You gotta play defense mad and aggressive and yesterday it just seemed they were the nail not the hammer. I'd spend some time in practice doing some hamburger drills or something.

The Birds' fast scoring pace seemed to wear on the Birds' Defense, but they did NOT BREAK! Some suspicions were exposed by a very good CovCath team. The Birds will make adjustments in time for Elder.

 

Yes, I thought this would not be close. But the close Win is even sweeter. Glad to see this rival continue. Looking forward to the rematch in the playoffs, the road to State runs through these two teams!

 

Thoughts and prayers go out to #17 Chad Bowden on a speedy recovery. All these young men left it all on the field.

And I can't believe what I just saw. West Virginia just scored from the 2 yard line of LSU from the shot gun!!! Oh my!!!!

 

I do agree with comments that you are better having your QB under center in short yardage. The difference is 1-2 steps faster to the point of impact for your RB. In shotgun, the QB gets the snap and the RB waits for the handoff then goes. Under center, at the snap the RB is immediately going forward gets the handoff and hits the hole much faster following the snap. Sure, you can run short yardage and score from the shotgun but having the QB under center is better.

Did anybody see the "fly over " of Canadian geese about 5 minutes before kickoff ? Perfect timing !!

 

All I can say about the HHS D is that there was too many yards gained after initial contact on CCH's RB's. Drake Bruns was making way too many tackles . If your safety is making lots of tackles , that's not a good sign. Nice to see Carter New got another pick , atta boy.

That was amazing. I had a great view of it.

 

I thought it was more amazing that Highlands has won 21 out of the last 25 meetings :sssh:

One thing I forgot to mention yesterday.

 

HHS and their reputation intimidates a lot of teams right from the get-go which is understandable after winning championship after championship.

 

It didn't happen yesterday. That was refreshing.

 

I hear people make that comment and I just don't buy it. The teams that are intimidated by Highlands, Trinity or whoever aren't good enough to beat them anyway, regardless of being intimidated. Teams that have good enough teams to contend with a Highlands or Trinity don't show up on game intimidated. Beechwood was not intimidated at all playing Highlands the last two years even though I am sure they knew it would be very difficult to beat them. I just don't buy into good teams ever being intimidated by who they play to the extent that it has an impact on the game. This might be a good topic for a thread on its own.

Understandable. When you have the beef up front CCH has had the past couple of years, you expect to score in 4 downs from any formation. And they may have scored that time if not for mishandling the snap on the one play. I would still be one of those who subscribes to getting under center in short yardage.

Neither D is very good against a strong offense.

After sleeping on it I think I may have been overly critical of the D. They did a nice job of shutting down Sheehan after the first pass to him. They did a really good job of pressuring PT. Gave up some good runs but overall did OK against the running backs for HHS.

 

They simply had no answer for PT. Who does!

 

They would get good pressure on him and it ended up hurting them because of his ability to run.

 

PT is one of the biggest difference-makers we've seen in a while.

I agree with you. You like to hear those hits that echo all the way across the field. We have seen a few of those Roller-esque hits from Bruns and maybe a couple of others. That's the kind of attack dog mentality that we need to foster.
