Bottom line: when a team puts 37 on the Bird D, a flaw in the current system was exposed. Hope the Birds fix it.

"At will" would not be accurate especially on the running game. Everything was hard-earned. If it had not been for Gabe Gray HHS' D would have fared much better. There were many(most) runs where they hit him and he still managed to gain 2 to 5 more yards. Kid ran hard.

 

I disagree, hard earned or not they are NOT happy in Caketown with that Defensive performance at ALL. Too many points and too big of chunks gained on each play. When Cov Cath got the ball back at the end on their own 30 or whatever it was I gurantee 90% of Bird fans felt anxiety and knew the Colonels were going to make it interesting.

 

Taking nothing away from the CovCath offense and line play, they just didnt execute very well.

Here we go again. Highlands gassed? At what point were they gassed? It had to be early because CCH moved the ball all day long. Was it early in the second half when CCH got their 3rd TD? CCH had 31 points on the board just after the start of the 4th quarter. So you are saying Highlands famed conditioning wasn't good enough for the Birds to handle 3 quarters of action?

 

If I were a CCH fan, I would be mad. Claiming your defense was gassed is a lack of respect. IMO you are saying my team is more talented than yours. That is what you are saying when you say your defense was gassed. You are saying that when both teams were fresh, my team was better than yours.

 

I had this debate after the Beechwood game when people tried to say BW was tired. No, give CCH credit. Their o-line is that good and Gabe Gray is that good. They can run the ball from the opening kickoff on and it doesn't matter if you are well rested and full of energy, they can still run it.

 

Disagree completely. IF HHS D was "gassed," it was because CCH was controlling tempo and line of scrimmage. This may ultimately lead to a change on the HHS O side of the ball. A little more "move the chains" philosophy like they were using on the last drive until the fumble gives HHS D a chance to rest. (That said, I think the HHS O will attempt to score whenever and however they feel like they can.)

Sounds familiar . HHS D needs to go to class on TACKLING 101 , the basics .

 

I thought they tackled okay but it seemed every play the CovCath players were running downhill and falling forward. I didnt see the gang tackling I am used to seeing or the push back and that had a lot to do with the GIRTH on the CovCath line.

Dale will score on the first play of every series if he can. Every coach will. You take the points when you can in a tight game.

If the D was gassed, good, they needed the challenge. But in no way should they be "embarrassed". CovCath is a very good team. Highlands did just enough to win. Could it have been better, absolutely. They've got 6-7 weeks to work on things. It took a near perfect game for CCH to keep it that close. Highlands didn't play their best game.

 

The rematch(if there is one) should be an awesome game. Hoping both teams make it there and both are healthy.
