Highlands loss to Ryle was due to not adjusting the D at halftime, period end of sentence. The game plans for both JC and Harlan were outstanding and earned them another State Title which I have no doubt that Coach Weinrich will make the necessary adjustments the second go round if it even happens.

I have a sneaky suspicion that Highlands will fare much better against Elder with this defensive scheme then they did against

CovCath. Just sayn...................:thumb:

 

Coach Weinrich will fix the issues. I have complete trust in the staff. That being said the fundamentals and tackling needs to be addressed in the FTJFL look close to home for a better understanding of the post SWEEP.

A better statistic would be # of plays run by HHS O and CCH D. Time of possession is a good statistic, but can be subject to some variables (incomplete passes, runs out of bounds, etc.).

 

According to the KHSAA website, CCH ran a whopping 79 offensive plays (32 passing, 47 rushing) to HHS' 48 offensive plays (14 passing and 34 rushing). Quite a large disparity.

In my head I had CCH D doing a solid job against the running game sans Towles. Incorrect. 24 for 167 7 YPC .

 

Add in 8 completions for 208 yards as well.

 

48 plays/495 yards. 10 yards PER PLAY.

All those things went in Highlands favor and they were still two inches away from losing. Not good.

Great game, played by two great high school programs. Were there mistakes made? Yes by both teams, remember these are young men. I see both teams learning from this game and preparing for the future. Hopefully they will meet again in a month and half. That game will be at David Cecil Memorial stadium. The stands will be rocking that night

Here we go again. Highlands gassed? At what point were they gassed? It had to be early because CCH moved the ball all day long. Was it early in the second half when CCH got their 3rd TD? CCH had 31 points on the board just after the start of the 4th quarter. So you are saying Highlands famed conditioning wasn't good enough for the Birds to handle 3 quarters of action?

 

If I were a CCH fan, I would be mad. Claiming your defense was gassed is a lack of respect. IMO you are saying my team is more talented than yours. That is what you are saying when you say your defense was gassed. You are saying that when both teams were fresh, my team was better than yours.

 

I had this debate after the Beechwood game when people tried to say BW was tired. No, give CCH credit. Their o-line is that good and Gabe Gray is that good. They can run the ball from the opening kickoff on and it doesn't matter if you are well rested and full of energy, they can still run it.

IMO Cov Cath played closer to their potential than Highlands did.
