HMMMMM......Not a fan of either team but reading all the posts this sums things up for me especially since you are on the Colonels side of things......Covington Catholic players are pumped because they almost beat Highlands? I really do not get that. I would say it would make them angry that it sounds like they could have won that they did not. Channeling that anger into working hard to get the rematch. Meanwhile how can Highlands be doubting themselves? They won didn't they? I think sometimes people mistake how BGP posters and fans feel vs how the coaches and players really view things.

 

Maybe the parents, and fans are happy as those are the ones who post on this board, but in no way shape or form are the CovCath players or coaches happy with coming close! The players and coaches are indeed upset, angry and mad that they didn't pull it off and I feel sorry for PC this Friday night!

Obviously these two will play again and hopefully it is another great game. It certainly will draw the casual fan (or the fan of teams like mine who will be one in done in the playoffs!!!!!)

That can go one way or the other in the psyche of a 17 year old. Yes they are disappointed they didn't blow CCH out,but they did win. So what if next game CCH gets up to a 2 score lead, are they going to start hanging their heads because they realize they will have to play for a full 4 quarters again? I'm just saying CCH has more confidence and enthusiasm then ever right now and it sounds like the Birds may be doubting themselves.

Ask PT if he is doubting himself right now after he eliminated any speculation in many minds as to who Mr Football should be this yr and ask The Drake if he is doubting himself right now after his hugh goal line tackles. And ask Carter New if his huge INT was a letdown.

Just because a Highlands fans makes a a statement or has an opininion certain people want to try and spin it in their favor and make it as if Dale and the ship is going down.

Most of the talk on here is about CovCath fans wanting the Highlands fans to say "yes you did play a nice game" and you do deserve a pat on the back for the hard work that the kids have been putting in to get back to where they have been in past yrs, and yes most Highlands fans have, but lets not forget who the top dog is, and until the top dog gets beat then theres still alot of work to do and all the moral victory stuff is all garbage imo. I highly doubt that Bir and Halpin and Wirth are feeling good about losing close. If they are then you are really in trouble. Just sayn........

Last three years under Coach Wirth vs Highlands are as follows:

 

2009 Highlands 36 - Covcath 7 (CovCath led 7 -6 after 1, 2 4th quarter TD's by Highlands put the game out of reach) I believe it was the time Highlands trailed at the end of any quarter all year long. IMO the best Highlands team in the past 10 years.

 

2010 Highlands 27 - Covcath 20 (Covcath ends the game inside the 30 with an incomplete pass at the 5)

 

2011 Highlands 42 - Covcath 37 (CovCath 1st and 10 at the 17 in the final minutes of the game, but Highlands defense steps up and keeps CovCath out of the endzone for the victory)

 

The past 3 years the games have been competitive. The past two years they have come down to the final possesion. The varsity players on both teams have not been involved in any of the "blow out" losses that occurred in 2007 and 2008.

 

Admittedly the two previous years CovCath players were somewhat satisfied even though they lost. In 2009 they felt they were competive again. In 2010 they felt they had closed the gap and were with in striking distance, having remembered 2008 and 2009 games. This year they are distraught over the loss, feeling (right or wrong) they let this one get away.

 

The point being is that CovCath knows they have to still climb the hill, but for the first time since 2006 they now can see the top of that hill. Now just like any obstacle many times the last few steps are the most difficult, but it is also much easier to motivate and stay focused when the goal is whithin reach.

I'm shocked that people would root against Highlands! Shocked, I say.

 

I can't imagine how non-Highlands fans would be tired or reading 48 threads about how talented HHS is and the only team that can even compete with them is T (and they got lucky HHS had two O-lineman out that day!), and how Pat is good enough to start for UK right now and how if you leave out a particular stat category that a HHS kid leads in you're labeled a hater and if you misspell Pat's last name you're a hater and if you don't think Dale is the bees knees and if you don't pay proper homage to the pee wee league and....

 

I can't imagine why some would take joy that HHS was within 20 yards of going down. No clue.

Lets face it we all know why they are hated...the same reason we hate Duke, the Yankees and the Patriots.. They consistantly win and you have to here about it all the time from the fans. It is what it is....until someone knocks them off and continues to knock them off you better get use to it but its all good fun and should not be taken any more than that.

Most people do not "hate" Highlands. Some do but they're the minority. Many wish Highlands would lose because no one likes for one team to win all of the time if it's not your team. Their program is to be envied without question.

 

SOME(and I emphasize that word) simply are intoxicated with their success and just like when you're intoxicated with the bubbly or the brew you say and do things that the "sober" among us find annoying. Some HHS fans on here are the equivalent of the "I love you , man" or the "tell the same story over and over" drunk guy. Fun and funny to the other drunks but not to the sober.
