I think there were only about 35 seconds left on the 4th down pass.

 

Then it gets more iffy whether you can force them to play or punt. With a :25 second play clock and two TO's you should still be able to get them to fourth down and decision time. I thought the CCH play by play said there were :45 to go when it went over on downs.

Yes, closer than some thought. I thought CCH could play with them if they could run on them and I expected CCH to be able to run on them. As I said in the game updates thread, the Beechwood/CCH thread and in other threads, this CCH offensive line is one of the best I have seen in recent years. They not only have the size averaging 265-270 but they have agility with that size. Everyone in the Beechwood thread thought Beechwood got run on because of fatigue. No, this game proves what I said there - Beechwood got run on because CCH can run on anyone with that line and Gabe Gray. It isn't fatigue. They can run it from the opening kickoff on if they decide that is the game plan. CCH's line is that good.

 

The problem as everyone saw and read on the updates thread, CCH's D just can't stop HHS. I am not sure anyone can. So there is no room for error. CCH needs the turnovers and they need to take advantage of them. They turned the late fumble into a TD. They missed out on the fumble at the one earler in the game. If HHS wins the turnover battle or keeps it even, I don't think CCH or anyone else in 4A can beat them.

That should be the case for all the teams in the top 5 in 4A.

Great Game and CCH won my respect. THe CCH offensive line was impressive. I never dreamed they could put up that many points on HHS. I have had the HHS player hurt in the endzone on my mind since the game ended. please someone tell me he is ok.....who was it? What was wrong?

Guru, Remember when you told me that I needed to be ojective with CCH and their chances with Highlands. I think if we look in the dictionary you will see two words objective and subjective. It looks like I was being objective and you were being subjective. I think you said we could not stay with in several touchdowns but nice team. You take last years game and this years game and tell me we dont have any chance of winning. Our kids believe but need to play better. I think we belong on the same field with the Bluebirds.

I was skeptical about Gray's ability to run against a good defense. I was wrong. That kid is very very good!

Takeaways

 

Highlands Defense had holes in it and CovCath had a nice game plan.

 

HHS D missed Brad Rouse on the edge for this game. Poston filled in nicely making some good solid tackles but Rouse is a hitter.

 

Towles solidified himself as the best QB in the state. His legs and arm are equally lethal.

 

Turnovers were huge for both teams they need to protect the ball on interior runs.

 

Ian Mcgurn had a great reception and run late in the game. Towels was almost sacked on that play as well.

 

Jac Collinsworth had some nice catches and still doesn't look 100% so I expect him to get much better as the season progresses.

 

Bird defense just looked a little soft to me. They have nice athletes but seemed to be the nail today rather than the hammer. Outside of the Bruns boys and Dressman I just dont see any big time hittErs. Solid defenders and pretty good tacklers just not as aggressive as I saw in the Western game.

 

Bir had all day and threw nice balls, he is very good.

 

Cov Cath offensive line is huge and tHey move well. They opened up some gaping holes today for Gray who was a mule out there.

 

I bet the Colonels wish they could have converted that FREE FG attempt at the end of half.

I looked up when CCH called the TO at the end of the half. Official made the right call even though he put too much time back on.

Overall, CCH D did a solid job against the pass today. I think Towles ended up in the low 200s with about 130 coming on two plays.

 

His ability to run, keep a pass play alive with his feet, and his size was the difference offensively. On his last TD you'll see more than 1 CCH defender afraid to stick his head in there. 6'5 230 does that to a small DB.
