Does UC get left out when it becomes 4 16 team conferences?

 

A lot depends on what Oklahoma and OK St do in the Big 12.

 

I've seen scenarios where UC ends up in the Big 12 East and also seen a scenario where a few Big 12 schools join the Big East after teams like WVU, UConn, Cuse, and Pitt head elsewhere.

 

Not sure how right I am, but I'd expect L'ville and Cincy to travel together in any sort of conference affiliation. GT??

I'm not sure they are necessarily joined at the hip but they could end up somewhere together. In truth, neither school provides a whole lot to the leagues that are in discussion. The Big Ten already has Ohio State and the SEC already has Kentucky. Assuming sixteen team leagues are the wave of the future, the ACC does have two spots left and the pecking order would seem to be Texas and Notre Dame (maybe not likely), followed by Connecticut and Rutgers (more likely, and better TV markets).

 

What will be the death knell for schools like Cincinnati and Louisville would be if any of these leagues scoop up non-BCS schools like BYU, Central Florida or Houston. Because it appears there are only 64 spots available and those two schools can't have spots being filled by people who weren't already at the dance.

Is Connecticut for sure going to the ACC? I've heard it speculated but nothing firm.

 

I don't think it's firm yet, but it looks emminent.

Just not going to happen. They are not on the SEC radar...

Besides WV who else is on the SEC radar or are they content with 14? Gotta think Missouri is still pretty high on the list but not sure what other team would make it a nice even 16.

I'd assume Ok and Ok-St end up in the Pac 16 and the Big 12 folds.

 

UC and Louisville seem in trouble as far as the big conferences.

They will be hanging on for dear life if it does end up with 4 super conferences...

This conference shuffle really stinks, and all because of football, in my opinion.

ACC or surprisingly they do have a sliver of hope on landing in the Big "10" if the Big East and Big 12 both evaporate...

Is there a reason the SEC wouldn't go after Texas and Texas Tech? They would seem to make the most sense IMO.

They don't bring a power TV market, they do nothing to increase recruiting footprint and they will struggle to stay above UK and Vandy in the football standings. That and just wait until SEC fans make the trip to always hospitable Morgantown. I see zero benefit in adding WVU in terms of making the conference stronger...

Mississippi State was added to the SEC when TV markets weren't an issue. They are almost grandfathered in. Now TV markets are the most important thing. So you can't really compare the two.

That's a good point on the TV market. I guess I'm not thinking of the financial aspect of it, which is what's driving this whole thing. Seems to me like Missouri is where the SEC will go, if only for the St. Louis market?

Columbia, MO is at the midpoint between St. Louis and Kansas City... they pull a chunk of each.

I wonder about TV market size being a major factor. If it is, TCU (5th largest market), Houston (10th), USF (13th), and UCF (19th) would be major players in the expansion talks and they aren't.
