It's not that easy. 1 - we should dominate in basketball as well. 2 - we don't really know the number of kids wanting to play football. 3 - why aren't the other Louisville schools dominating? Central could easily be the 2nd or 3rd best team in Louisville this year, and their enrollment is low.

No, but Louisville dominates in other sports such as volleyball, track, and for a while, they did in basketball.

 

It's not just about numbers. There are several reasons why and I don't think you will get your answer in a single sentence. I truly believe numbers plays a role in it. But there are other factors too.

 

What's interesting is, if you take the top 20 Louisville schools in enrollment and played them against the top 20 NKY teams in enrollment this year, I'm thinking the games split 50/50 or maybe a slight edge to NKY. While Louisville is strong at the top no doubt, they are incredibly weak at the bottom.

 

It's also interesting to point out that there are eight Louisville schools with larger male enrollments than NKY's largest.

Seems to me that NKy while never winning a large school state title, seems to win a lot of the other divisional state titles in football!

 

Seems year in and year out, NKy HS seem to win more KHSAA State Football Titles, than Jefferson County schools do!

 

Is that the case? Last year Trinity and Central won titles....actually 3/4 for two teams from Louisville titles.

It's also interesting to point out that there are eight Louisville schools with larger male enrollments than NKY's largest.

It actually has no interest to me, in that I think enrollment has very little to do with it. Which your statistics validate.

If SK, Dixie and Scott was one Kenton County School they would be the best team in KY!

Beaty is a better coach than anyone in blue can throw against them. If you want to beat Trinity you need to get all of your best athletes training year round to equal their numbers. Even then you have to create a better game plan than their staff and get your players to buy in so they stay disciplined

Louisville is the magnet area of the greater Louisville metropolitan area. I sense most families that make school choices on the basis of education, athletics, school values, etc would be drawn to T or X in the Louisville area. The stiffest competition would be from Male, Manual and possibly Central. NKY is not the magnet of the greater Cincinnati metroplitan area. Cincinnati draws many of the families making these educational decisions. Moeller, Elder, St. X, Colerain and some others are all schools that can compete and arguably beat the big 2 out of Louisville on a yearly basis. When Boone County and Conner were the only Boone County schools, Boone competed with T and X. Now they are divided into a minimum of 4 public school choices and several private school choices. The same can be said for Kenton County. If Kenton County was able to draw the inner city athletes from Holmes and have the numbers of players from Scott, Simon, and Dixie they would match T and X in depth, skill, athleticism and coaching, so I think you would have a very competitive situation with NKY and T and X. It is my belief that Trinity and X have the most advantageous situation to draw talent in Ky. If NKY drew all of the top talent of the Cincy area, the title of this post would be why can't T and X compete with NKY. Just my opinion.

I would have to believe that tradition and school support of a sport, or sports, has as much to do with it as any other factor. You would have a very difficult time convincing me that all of Trinity's top football players are there because of a Catholic Education. Highlands, another great scholastic school. I never hear out of district people talking about sending their sons there to get a top notch education. I hear them saying we are going there to play football. Beechwood the same thing. Throw NCC and CCH in the mix as well. I sat at the Campbell County, NCC game Friday night. There was a couple there that had a child at NCC and another child at Campbell County. Both boys, both do not play football. Talked to a friend of mine Wednesday at the Alexandria Fair Parade. She just sold her house in Alexandria, looking to buy in Ft. Thomas, as her son is already going to Highlands. Education was never mentioned in our conversation.Figure it out. If you live " in the county" as it is referred to here, and your goal is to get your child a good Catholic education. Why do you drive past Brossart, all the way to NCC or CCH. My point being, A winning tradition draws talent, talent in turn keeps the tradition alive. That along with administrators who want and enjoy that tradition, as well further enhance it by building a program that will support the tradition. Top talent as well as top coaching are drawn to well supported programs with winning tradition.

Scribe hit on the head with. I've been screaming this for ever. Look at it state by state. Your best teams are normally from the biggest areas population wise. The talent pools are much much larger. Henderson has 1000 boys but that 1000 boys comes from a pool of 1000 boys. T has 1400 boys that come from a pool of at least 8000 boys. See the difference.
