Obviously the two main areas of HS football in KY are Louisville and NKY. That being said, in Louisville it is often us, X, occasionally Male, and Central that make the most noise. In NKY you have Beechwood, HHS, NCC, and used to have CCHS, and then a revolving door of the NKY "big dogs".........my real question is, why can't NKY put together the team that will A): take them to the promised land, and B): sustain that success?

 

I wouldn't group Campbell County High School with the best of NKY.

IMO the locals in NKY are happier with the state of their public schools than those folks in Louisville. Therefore, instead of 1 or 2 schools getting a lot of boys looking for an alternative they stay in their district ie the herd stays thin at each school.

If you want to hold up a school that has crazy success without having 1400 boys then hold up the Bluebirds. That's the most remarkable football feat in KY.

RP, you kind of answered your own question and Clyde has covered it well above. The talent is spread out much more in N. Ky. among the schools you list, the 6A's and others. Here is some demographic info that backs up what we are saying.

 

In just Kenton Co. if you start in Covington on Dixie Hwy. and drive the 10 miles to Florence, you go through something like 15 cities, 6 or 7 school public school districts plus 4 private school districts. That is in a 10 mile stretch. In Ft. Mitchell, a community of about 8,000, there are students that attend Beechwood, Covington Catholic, Holy Cross, Cincinnati St. X., Cincinnati Moeller and non football Catholic schools St. Henry, Villa Madonna and Covington Latin School. If you took CCH, Holy Cross and St. Henry and made them one school that I believe would still be smaller than Trinity, you would have a 6A football powerhouse. In Campbell County you have Ft. Thomas (about 17,000 pop.) with students attending both Highlands and Newport Central Catholic. Combine NCC and Highlands and that would be one heck of a program. The population of Kenton County is only 159,000 and there are something like 17 high schools. Compare that with Jefferson County's population of 740,000. There is a much smaller population base and the talent is spread out more in N. Ky.

Back to the original question, the building of new high schools with no opportunity for tuition students hurts the schools in Boone County. For instance, there were some good football players that would have added speed and depth to Ryle's team last year that played for Ryle as freshmen. They built Cooper and they had no choice to stay at Ryle. There is no tuition option.
