Track the NL Central Champion Reds - 2nd Half (Week 4)

Heisey is the perfect 4th outfielder and pinch hit guy. He kind of reminds me of a back up QB on a football team where the starting QB is bad. Everyone wants him to play everyday, but in reality he's just not good enough to be a starter and has proven that this year.

He is definitely a ++ bench player though and a big part of the team.

Reds could really make up some ground this week, playing the worst 2 teams in the division while the top 2 are playing against each other.

Change his name to Neifi Perez or Corey Patterson
Or Lenny Harris ...

All 3 division rivals that are above the Reds in the standings have made moves recently to improve their teams. What have the Reds done?

Heisey is not an everyday player. He's made that very clear this year.

Agreed. He does a great job as a PH and spot stater.

Traded Gomes. Sounds like all 4 teams did something to improve their teams.

So we are going with addition by subtraction for the Reds?

AMEN!

Addition by subtraction. :D

So what does Alonso have to do to get playing time?

I don't think the Reds brought him up to play every day or even in a platoon. Alonso is here to be their left handed pinch hitter late in games. I see Lewis getting more AB's, Heisey platooning (Lewis is 0-10 vs lefties, .290 vs righties) and Alonso maybe getting a spot start if Stubbs or Bruce sits a game.

It's just stupid to bring up a young kid like Alonso not to start atleast 4 days a week.

That's cold, man. :D

When your team needs something to win a title, some times you have to do things a little differently to try and win. The Reds have no left handed pinch hitter when Lewis starts. The best, and maybe only, place Alonso can help this team right now is coming off the bench late.

He would be a lot more productive in LF than Heisey or Lewis have been. And everybody that's seen him says his defense out there is more than adequate.

Lewis actually has pretty good numbers versus right handers and I am sure is better defensively than Alonso. But I don't have a problem putting Alonso out there and seeing what he can do. But when you have to pinch run for a guy as they did for Alonso after a pinch hit the other night, I have to wonder how good he can be playing the outfield.
