I wouldn't mind seeing Alonso get a shot. Although, I have to trust Baker when he says that he isn't sure if he's ready to play OF at this level.

Because you have no choice.
Lewis actually has pretty good numbers versus right handers and I am sure is better defensively than Alonso. But I don't have a problem putting Alonso out there and seeing what he can do. But when you have to pinch run for a guy as they did for Alonso after a pinch hit the other night, I have to wonder how good he can be playing the outfield.

Lewis is not a very good defensive outfielder.

You're right that Lewis has done pretty good vs. RHP, but Alonso could easily have the same production if not better. Why not stick him in there to see if he'll be the everyday LF'er next year?

I'm unsure of the situation Alonso was pinch run for but I'm sure it was a close game and they were losing, so that's no different than pinch running for a catcher in that situation. Doesn't mean they can't play defense. A faster player is needed in the situation to try and score. I'm sure Dusty pinch ran a pitcher so it's not like they had to waste another player. If Ramon or Hanigan had got a pinch hit in that situation they would have been pinch ran for too. And you don't complain about their defense.

But you don't trust Rick Sweet and the Reds Scouts who says he can?

He can't be any worse than some of the other OF'ers in the leagure are.

Sure I do, the same way you and LRCW do.

No, that's not true. You choose to be a lemming.

You don't think someone in the organization has questioned his ability to play OF in the show? Do you really think they're going to tell FSN Ohio/700 WLW/Fox 19...etc. that Alonso may not be able to play OF in the show?

Do you think Sweet would recommend Alonso then turn around to the media and say he's not capable of playing OF at this level? He'd look like an idiot.

No, that's not true. You choose to be a lemming.

I'm a rodent? Can't believe you went there.

Yep, blindly following Dusty blunder after blunder. He's no good. Great guy. Doesn't mean he can manage.

Don't know him personally. Many people in charge of hiring managers think otherwise.

Then, please, by all means, I hope those people court him this offseason.

Really? His reputation is one a good defensive leftfielder, and the numbers seem to bear that out ... his range factor is well above the NL average.

Even if Alonso's production against lefties is equal to that of Lewis, perhaps his shoddy defense would give back some of the runs.

I am beyond baffled that they didn't trade Ramon. To be honest I am losing a little bit of faith in Walt.

Out of curiosity, what do you think he'd have brought in return?

Lower level prospect but I don't see the downside. You get something in return and get Meso up here for 60 games to see what he can do and hopefully build into next year.
