Coach L is a great guy. I wish him the best. It is obvious that he was pushed out by someone or group at CCH, or he would never had taken this job. He loves the place to much.

Wow what a loss for the CCH community/student body. He was a good teacher and a stand up guy. Honestly, I'm sad that my younger brother (currently in Jr. High) will never be taught by Coach L.

While there might have been some extenuating circumstances regarding his exit as a coach don't underrate the opportunity to teach 5 years in Covington and significantly update his pension. If you aren't going to be the head guy at a place you love start thinking about your future.

I think there is a lot of merit to the retirement plan side of this. It seemed strange for Coach to head to Holmes but getting qualified in the state teacher's retirement and having a nice income in the last few years as you head to retirement is big. Beechwood Superintendent Glenn Miller just took the Super job in Campbell Co. Similar to Coach, Miller had been in the Beechwood system as a teacher, principal and Superintendent for 27 years, but when you look at the pay increase and what it means to him in retirement, he had no choice but to make the move. Coach L probably had to make the same type of decision and the Holmes deal was an offer he couldn't refuse, regardless of how things were at CCH.

Bottom line is, when Coach L became a Free Agent you can bet your bottom dollar that Ron Madrick was waiting on his door step that next morning with a contract in hand. Excellent pickup and even though Holmes may only be ranked 4th or 5th preseason, adding Coach L to the staff along with Wimzie and Booher will likely make that team more like top 2 or 3. If those kids listen to those coaches and execute they will be the best coached team in the 9th Region by far.

Agree totally Qryche11-You have one coach that won a state championship in Booher, another that won one as an assistant coach in Wimzie, and he also played in the state championship game as a player, and Listerman who coached a team into the state semi-finals. Hard for a kid not to at least listen to one of those three. I suspect Holmes will continue to be a powerhouse in Northern Kentucky. Let's not forget Listerman probably has a pretty good idead for the next year or two of what the top line Colonel players can and cannot do.

Coach Listerman was Coach Tieman's assistant for years. Head Coach Tieman and Assistant Coach Listerman worked great together. When Coach Tieman stepped down from the head coaching gig, he became Coach Listerman's assistant. Head Coach Listerman and assistant Coach Tieman worked great together. Everything in Coach Listerman's history points to him adapting and excelling as Coach Booher's assistant.

I doubt it. I think he is just riding out his last 5 yrs to retirement and he will be a positive influence on the bench. I dont think he will have an agenda to do things his way.

Coach L was quoted in the paper as saying it was nice not to have all the pressure on him and only being there for support and suggestions. In the short conversations I've had with coach L, he seems like the type of guy that can excel and adapt to any coaching role.

 

He and Booher have also become very good friends in their time knowing one another.

That's always what it's about at Holmes. I'm not sure this hire helps that. If they do listen and buy into the coaches though they will have a lot of good info to listen to.
