I can see it now 400 red sweater vest, pacing back and forth in the stands, perhaps a towl draped over their shoulders.

 

I agree that Coach L will be greeted warmly. He embraced the crazies to the nth degree. No matter what the reason(s) for his departure he will always be remebered as a good man who truely understood the mission and purpose of CovCath.

Holmes coaching staff was already very good with Booher and Wimzie. Adding a guy like Coach L will make that program that much better both on and off the court.

 

IN recent years I have crossed paths with and become friends with a lot of CCH faithful both young and old and one thing they will all tell you is that whether they agreed with his coaching strategy or not, he was one hell of a guy off the court and a great leader to have in their community.

 

This is a great hire by Holmes and honestly it really doesn't surprise me. Read some of the quotes from Coach L in recent years and anything he has ever said about Holmes and their program has always been positive and he's talked about how much he enjoys coaching against Holmes because of the talent they have year in and year out and how well the kids respond to him when he talks to them off the court. While Coach L might not be able to relate to the kids the way Bud Wimzie does, I think his guidance will be nothing but positive.

This has been in the mix for a while.

Coach L was not forced out at CCH teaching wise. I honestly think it was a situation where he just needed to look out for himself. Get back into the retirement system and look ahead long term.

 

I would imagine it was a difficult decision for Coach L to leave but maybe it was just time.

He was very successful at CCH and the wild expectations of the CCH faithful was his undoing. He had a great run and maybe they didn't do some things consistently enough, but over the last few years they just were not very talented.

 

One other misconception I have seen in this thread is the talk of Holmes having great talent, in general. Holmes has a few kids that are talented, like the Rice kid but there is a difference in talent and skill. What they do have is some athletes and more than most in NKY which makes them unique.

 

One thing that I have heard is that Coach L is very compassionate and that should be of great benefit to the students in the classroom.

 

Don't forget Ross Hart is one of the Dawgs assistants and has done a really nice job with the JV teams and is a young coach on the rise.

CovCath lost a great educator of their Faith and just a great person. I believe Coach L is around 57 ish and needs about 5 yrs or so tenure to get his retirement from the State, so I have been told. So with this news I say good for him. He has paid his dues to CovCath and then some and CovCath has paid their dues to Coach L and I am sure he has no regrets. He gave them his best day in and day out just like he did at St. Thomas, HC and Highlands yrs ago and will be an excellent addition to Holmes. This is just the final chapter of his teaching career and regardless of what happened between him and the "mafia" will have nothing to do with what the next 5 yrs brings him.

A great guy from a great family with a much bigger Support group that many will ever know. Good Luck Coach!!!!

As most know I am a huge Coach L backer. I have enjoyed every minute of ever practice, every game and bus or car ride over the years and after taking with him this morning, I am even more of a fan of Coach L.

 

As Coach L told me, he is happy with his decision as Holmes wants him and he still wants to coach! I honestly think he will not only do an outstanding job coaching at Holmes but more importantly as a teacher.

 

As I told him, I can't wait for his first appearance at CovCath as I can guarantee you this, it will be first time ever that the Crazies give a standing ovation to a visiting High School Coach!

 

Good luck Coach L and thank you for your years at CovCath, you are going to be missed!

I can tell you this much. When Covcath lost to Boone in the regionals this year and CovCath's season was over Coach L DID NOT think it was his last game as a CovCath head coach. You read between the lines there. And I can verify that!

The Colonels lost to Ryle - not Boone this past year in the regionals. I am sorry but I do not know how close you are to it, and how credible your info is, esp since you did not know who Coach L's last game was against. I guess I am just skeptical. Sorry.
