June 15, 201115 yr No one hates Stubbs. He's a pure guess hitter, who has way too big of a swing for a leadoff hitter. It's obvious to everyone that if he would just shorten his swing he'd be unbelievably dangerous. And don't fall into the Stubbs is great defensively trap. He covers a ton of ground because of his speed, but he's anything but a great defensive player. He's good, but no where close to great. He takes awful routes on most flyballs, gets horrible jumps on many others. It largely goes unnoticed because his speed allows him to make up for it. I for one see the same things on defense. I love Stubbs potential but he has a long way to go to be considered a great defensive centerfielder. Griffey Jr. was a great defensive centerfielder. Stubbs lets balls fall in front of him all the time that Griffey at his age ate up. Hopefully in time hye can develop this skill and if he cuts down on his swing late in the count could become a great all around centerfielder.
June 15, 201115 yr Heisey CF Renteria SS Votto 1B Phillips 2B Rolen 3B Gomes LF Lewis RF Hanigan C Wood P Cue the EZ blow up in 3...2...1.... No the only thing I didn't like beside Stubbs absence was Renteria in the 2 hole. As for him in the lineup he couldn't do any worse than Janish. I'm guessing that Rolen TOLD Dusty he was playing today, otherwise the lineup would have looked worse on paper with Cairo in there. But the way Rolen has been hitting I would have been fine with him on the bench.
June 15, 201115 yr Wow. What a catch by Gomes... It is good to see a player even though he is struggling offensively give you every bit of hustle he has. It's hard not to root for the guy when he busts his butt like that.
June 15, 201115 yr Great sweep of the Dodgers. They so easily could have swept the trip. Let's get home and hope the bats can come alive against the Jays and Yanks. Rolen showed some signs today and Hanigan had a couple of hits. Let's hope the pitching can keep Bautista in the park this weekend.
June 15, 201115 yr Fay... Billy Hamilton of Single-A Dayton has 52 steals, the most in baseball. That, while hitting only .233 (.294 OBP). He has been known to steal three or four bases in a game while also going 0-4...He draws walks and has blurrring speed, I've seen some crazy athletic videos of him doing stuff I couldn't believe, I may post if ican find them when I get home...What is hurting him imo is his switch hitting, its just not natural looking for him...He can't hit well from the left side because he looks right handed to me...I believe focusing on his strong side would be a wise decision...His build and tools remind me a bit of Gordon...

He has 20 walks in 263 PA's... Not a great ratio.
June 16, 201115 yr He has 20 walks in 263 PA's... Not a great ratio. I actually saw him play last nite. Fast. Long way to go before reaching the show.
June 16, 201115 yr Okay so there we go that's at least 20 steals or more on walks then which is what im saying...Everytime he is on base he attempts to run and the other team.knows.it coming, sure he's not always safe but then there's times he steals 2nd and 3rd safely so ...Id say almost.half his steals come without even getting a hit which was my point, I said he walks and steals, not that he walks a ton...

How do you steal 3-4 bases while going 0-4?
June 16, 201115 yr Did anyone else think of Patrick Starr when the Reds swept his Dodgers yesterday? Absolutely.
June 16, 201115 yr Fielding errors? Yeah I guess so. He was talking about drawing a lot of walks though.
