June 19, 201115 yr An article in the Enquirer today said that Jocketty and Baker talked about the state of the team and whether or not Cozart has forced a move yet with his play @ Louisville. Well guess what Jocketty said. They like what they have. This is a team that over the last 10 games has struggled bigtime offensively going 5-5 and hitting a total of 7 HRs. With the exception of Rolen who has shown signs of warming up a bit the only guys over .300 in that span are Gomes, Hanigan and Lewis and guess what. They are part-time players. Votto and Bruce who had been carrying this team have shut down with 1 HR and 7 RBIs total over the last 10 and guess what. Dusty still has them batting back-to-back. Why does it take Johnny B. so long to see bad trends? His experiment with the lineup worked for awhile but it's time to shake this order up a little. Gomes has shown some signs of life after a terrible 2 month start and he rarely sees the field. We wanted Heisey forever and now he is struggling trying to show why he belonged on the field everyday. Can anybody please tell me why we are carrying 12 pitchers and Jeremy Horst hasn't pitched since June 7th? Fisher pitched yesterday and hadn't pitched since June 11th and June 5th before that? This team needs offense and they can't go down to Louisville and get some help? Shuttling pitchers when they need them never seems to be a problem for this team but for the last 11 days we have a had a relief pitcher taking up space on the 25 man active roster when we sorely could have used a bat that could maybe energize this team. C'mon Walt and Johnny B. wake up. Give Cozart or somebody else from Louisville a chance to help kick start this team and maybe you will find that you don't need Renteria or Lewis on this squad.
June 19, 201115 yr Oh and by the way Happy Father's day to all you fathers out there. I for one am taking in the game today with my sons and my grandson on a guys day out at the ballyard. I hope you guys can enjoy the day as well. I sure hope the wiffle ball pitcher can keep the Jays in the yard today or it might require a few extra "chilly" pops to keep me cooled down.

Gomes, Hanigan and Lewis aren't everyday players, so just because they've hit better over the last two weeks you're advocating that they are? Wouldn't that remove Bruce from the lineup? Nobody is advocating yanking Bruce or Votto around the lineup but obviously they are struggling and hitting them together makes it worse. Dusty has always been one to tinker and now all of a sudden when they need it he is asleep at the wheel. How can you explain Gomes getting 4 hits in one game and then getting rewarded with a day off?

You're pointing to one 10-game stretch, a small part of the season. Every player has hot streaks and cold streaks. What if he separates them and they get hot again ... you going to advocate keeping them apart? How can you explain Gomes getting 4 hits in one game and then getting rewarded with a day off? Because Gomes isn't an everyday player. Finding ways to spot him in the lineup against lefties, certain pitchers, etc. ... that's part of the manager's job. Earl Weaver was a master at manipulating his daily lineups based on the opposing pitcher, ballpark, etc. In this era, Tony LaRussa is very good at it, too.
June 19, 201115 yr Where are all the people that said the offense isn't a problem? The offense has been a problem lately. However if the Reds offense is a problem, then basically every team in baseball also has a problem on offense. This team has some of the better offensive numbers in baseball I believe I heard. So as I said then if the Reds offense is a problem, then every offense in baseball just about has an even bigger offensive problem. It just seens worst to us, since it happens to be the team we see play everyday. The two biggest holes for the Reds offensively is SS and LF. Most teams have more problems offensively than just two positions. It would be nice if they could address those problems though, or give a couple of these young guys a chance at those spots.
June 19, 201115 yr My turn. The Bad: Offense looking mediocre as the Yanks come into town. The Good: Pitching has been fantastic for the most part this month. We'll need it for how cold the bats have been.

June 19, 201115 yr Westsider Going back to the last thread. Please, please, please don't but Johnny B. Baker aka the "toothpick" in the same class with Earl Weaver and Tony Larussa when it comes to making good managerial decisions. While I am not a big Larussa fan he runs rings around Dusty Baker in most areas of managing. Dusty is a player's manager and leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to making quick and smart managerial decisions.
