Was Mayfield's title run in 2010 the most dominate ever in class A?

Featured Replies

Hence a problem, my measuring stick and yours might be different. I do state what makes me feel they were the most dominant though you may measure differently but these are pretty good indicators of the domination.

If the question is most dominating then I think your measuring stick is about all you can go by, so I have no problem with it. I am just saying that Beechwood will never be able to match that measurement.

Time will tell but what about the pasts? Beechwood had some great teams and a few were undefeated, without records like the KHSAA posts today It is all but impossible for someone like me to determine how dominant any of those or for that matter any of the great Danville or Pikeville teams were against their competition. Now this is not to confuse which team would be champs if they could all play each other. That would be a whole different discussion though this team would be in the discussion

No, Beechwood 1991 was the most dominating run through single A I can remember, not to mention trouncing a Cov Cath team that was pretty good.

Just the last 2 years.

Mayfield 39.3 margin of victory against teams with a combined 93-86 record.

LCA 32.7 margin of victory against teams with a combined 105-78 record.

I hate to go there but I will go ahead and say - it is all about the schedule TP. I know, I know .... this has been discussed on here and I hesitated to bring it up because I don't want to take anything away from Mayfield. And my point here should not take anything away from how good Mayfield was last year. But the fact is Beechwood always plays several very good higher class teams and I don't see that changing. With 4 games each year against New Cath, Dixie, Cov Cath and a Highlands or Simon Kenton, they will never be able to get 11 running clocks and therefore they will never be able to be as dominating. That is where I am coming from.

Larry W, tell me more about the 91 team, all I really know about that team at this point is they were undefeated and it s Yeagle's first team

You may want to look up 1997 while you are at it. Very tough schedule ... Plus a lot of people have said that Beechwood had the best team in all classes.

As far as the rest ... I realize how bored you guys must be down there .... So I will let you have your fun.

I was going to bring up the 1997 team, amazing what they did, If I am not mistaken they beat teams in every class in KY, and one or two in Ohio, including a very good Purcell team that reached the state semi's I believie in Ohio. They Beat CCH that year, what did CCH end up doing that year in the playoffs?

1991 was amazing as well, Yeagle's first year, the was they rolled over everyone, including Pikeville in the state finals.

Not taking anything away from Mayfield, they had a great run last year too.

Three 1,000 yard backs and a stud QB.

97 was their best team.

'97 beat the heck out of Highlands in a scrimmage. They then proceeded to destory Wyoming w Richard Hall and Purcell who won the GCL north. They beat the AAA champs and then beat everyone else like they stole something including Dennis Johnson and Harrodsburg

Won every game including a 42-10 trouncing of Cov, who also beat Highlands soundly. Beechwood didn't have a close contest that year. They had a pro baseball player at tailback and a quarterback who started at SS for Eastern as a true freshman. I have heard the 97 Beechwood team was better, but I disagree.

Yes, Mayfield dominated last year and kicked butt and took names and all the other cliche's. But I'm not sure they were Mayfield's best 1A team. I like the 95 team, and that has been debated on here before with the Bwood people.

It also was boring watching us manhandle team after team. The schedule is the schedule and we played who was in front of us but aside from the Tilghman game most games were over by halftime. I did get a scare up at LHC which jumped out on us I believe 14-0 but we scored 59 straight points in 30 something minutes. It might be awhile before we see an offense like that again.
