Wouldn't this be hard to measure or even estimate? There are different amounts good teams in a class each year, and no team is the same from year to year. I guess maybe it could be said that Mayfield had the greatest disparity between how good they were compared to everyone else in 1A, but I would to try to rank dominance especially from decade to decade. That said the only teams I keep track of in 1A are the two in NEKY in Fairview and Raceland.

So how many running clocks, scoring margin, ect for the 91 and 97 Beechwood teams??? Want to compare to see if they really were as dominate as this past years Cards. Anybody recall anything on the old dominate Pikeville teams???

I thought this year's Mayfield team was one of the best I had seen come from there, but you cant compare apples and oranges. Their district was downright awful this year. Different schedules, different teams, etc. You cant use running clock as a measuring stick with other teams and other years.

I think 2010 Mayfield team may have the best offense I have seen from a class A team. Very diverse, alot of playmakers and could pass at will on about anytime they wanted. No dominant running back, but, still an effective running game because of there spead offense and ability to throw it. Defensively, I've seen better teams with more size, but, this team were sound tacklers, quick in the lines and LBs that could really pursue. They also had alot of quality depth, which is unusual for many 1a teams. The 97 Beechwood team was awefully good. I dont remember there 91 team, but, the 97 team was big, quick, had depth, they could do it all offensively. They did give up quite a few points that year, but, they were still very, very sound there, too...

QS - are you kiddin me??? :confused: I would have figured you to be sitting back in your easy chair up in NKY thumping your chest. After all, as Snake pointed out, you were the one and only one, who correctly predicted that Mayfield would roll through 1A without breaking a sweat. You told us all season long that this was one of the top two teams ever in class A and might be the best ever. I can go back and pull your comments into this thread if it would help you to recall saying that on numerous occasions. I even told alot of Mayfield fans about how your comments should be taken with greater respect than others because you were an expert. I'm not so sure that that in the 90's there were no running clocks but if not that would have meant that a team that was extremely dominant would win by an even larger margin. Anyway, to be clear, my question was is this the most dominant team ever and that is not to be confused with is this the best team ever in class A. We can do that one next if that is what posters want. I by no means think this Cardinal team played the toughest of opponets in getting the title but think it may have been the most loppsided run in getting the title and merely am asking if there are anyother teams to consider and so far we have been told that 91 and 97 Beechwood teams maybe did so but not knowing much about those teams and having no records on the KHSAA site for those years it is hard for me to say without seeing some of their stats. I am not kidding you at all.

1. The comments above about Mayfield being the best in the history of Class A occurred around the time of the "Classy' 75-6 defeat of Fulton County. Draw your own conclusions.

 

2. My only comments regarding Beechwood 91/97 are this .... THOSE TEAMS WON--and that is all that matters. We don't sit back and thump our chests about beating inferior teams by 70. It is over and done with ... and we don't feel the need to pump up our egos by bragging about how many teams we put against a running clock. Like I said ... if that makes the Mayfield people proud .. by all means ... you have earned it.

 

From there ... I will bow out of the conversation. And to make your little ego's feel better .. Mayfield is the most dominate program in the history of all Kentucky Football!!!!

Yes, Mayfield dominated last year and kicked butt and took names and all the other cliche's. But I'm not sure they were Mayfield's best 1A team. I like the 95 team, and that has been debated on here before with the Bwood people.

 

It also was boring watching us manhandle team after team. The schedule is the schedule and we played who was in front of us but aside from the Tilghman game most games were over by halftime. I did get a scare up at LHC which jumped out on us I believe 14-0 but we scored 59 straight points in 30 something minutes. It might be awhile before we see an offense like that again.

In this time of boredom I went back on the Mayfield website and watched some of the game replays of their 15-0 season yesterday and got to wondering if their domination of class A last year was the most dominant ever in class A. Keep in mind we were AA for a number of years so I am not as familiar with the teams in class A prior to the mid to late 90's. This Cardinal team had 11 running clocks, with only Beewood and a stubborn Crittenden County in class A avoiding a running clock. The Beechwood game saw the Cardinals take knees with a first and goal inside the 5 at the end of the game in a act of sportmanship or that game would have been a even wider spread than it was. The state title game saw Mayfield jump to a 47-0 lead with running clock in the 3rd quarter and Hazard's lone score came in the final minute of the game long after the starters had gone to the sidelines to celebrate. The Cardinals led class A in scoring as well as the entire state and only allowed 147 to be scored all year again first in class A and #6 overall in the state. Mayfield was also #1 in class A in scoring margin and #2 overall in the state. Has there been as dominating of a preformance in class A?

STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS Class A 2000, 2001, 2003. During that time they had a 42 game winning streak 1991-1993. So I guess that should answer your quesiton...

The ADs were great then but none of those teams dominated like this years Cards. By the way, Beechwood actually won 4 straight and 6 out of 7 titles but that stat has nothing to do with debate in this thread about which team had the most dominate year.
