Irish on my mothers side and German on my fathers side. Have I ever mentioned I like beer?

Well, we have done the 'how old are you' thread....'how are you connected to other BGPers' thread and 'who do you argue with the most' thread. I just came from the 'Tea Party Shoots itself in the Foot' thread so now I am wondering the racial demographic of BGP.

Completely private poll for those who don't want their race known and as always you can volunteer the info if you want.

I'll start....I am a 36 year old black male. I despise the term 'African-American'. Word up.

I wasn't sure if this thread should be in Hot Topics or not. I figured if it belonged there it would be moved accordingly.

Looks like we roll two deep! :D

White, raised in Alabama, red neck thru and thru.
Roll 'Tide! :D

The heavy "German numbers" aren't a surprise to me, given the proximity to Cincinnati.

I'm 52 year old and black. My dad used to hate being called black. He said,"No one colored him with a crayon."

Better two than one. I thought I was riding solo.:D

I remember having the black/African-American discussion with my father who is 64. I always told him he came from the Bill Cosby generation and I am from the Tupac generation.

I have always identified myself as black. I guess I have always been less PC than 99% of America. My stance is that I don't know of any family from Africa, they are all from Louisiana and Texas. I have always felt that those who moved from Africa are true African Americans not so much families who live in New York and can only trace their lineage to the south. As far as I know my family has more French Creole in it even though I know our origins are African.

I am a 59 year old white female. Not sure what all is in my family tree....may need to do some research.....

That's the Czech in you. All the Czech's I know, which are quite a few since I work with quite a few, are pretty funky! :D
If he got married, what would you call his bride -- a Czech mate?

2 and 1/2 deep at least :D.

What time is it?

Does it matter? Last I checked Yuengling time is anytime.

Irish on my mother's side, English on my dad's.

I haven't researched it but I would guess that most of eastern Kentucky is Scotch-Irish-English. Most of the surnames trace back to those areas.

Strangely enough we had this kind of discussion in class today with "surnames". In the class we got on this topic for almost every kid in there had either an English, Irish or Scottish last name. Now I'm sure some have some German or other Euro blood, but it was odd. Even some of teh odd names in there we looked up and they were English and Scottish.

Kind of off-topic, but we were talking about WWI and Europe so maybe not. Teachable moments :D.

:thumb: Red, Yellow, Black or White (or Purple).......there's no need for further description regarding race in a wonderful multi-cultural nation such as the one in which we live.

But to answer the original question, I'm greater than 75% German. My maternal great-grandfather and great-grandmother emigrated to this country from Germany in the late 1800's. My grandfather (their child) married my grandmother who is also full-blooded German which therefore produced my mother who is full-blooded German. My grandmother on my father's side is also full-blooded German and married my grandfather who is of German/Irish/Scottish descent.

Thus, to summarize, I love bier.:thumb:

That applies in Louisville as well, although German concentration in Cincy is heavier. As a general rule, river towns tend to almost always have a German component historically.
