I guess I'm not a hillbilly then. I go to Meijer, WalMart and Best Buy. Never added an apostrophe S to those stores.

I thought this was just an issue in our family!

 

My parents not only say Krogers, they also say Walmarts and Kmarts. My brother and I always give them a hard time about it. But the funny thing is, I say Krogers and Meijer's too. In fact, until now, if I had to bet my life on which was right, I would probably lose.

If we are going to LN's house or business we would say I'm going to Leatherneck's, not I'm going to Leatherneck.

I can buy into that, to a degree. However, the tendency of hillbillies is to add an 's' where one doesn't belong. Folks say "I'm going to Kroger's" no more often than they go to "Meijer's" or "Wal-Marts" or "Best Buys" in Northern Kentucky, at least from my experiences living there many years.

I have never said Wal-Mart's. But if Sam Walton used his last name instead I guess I would say I'm going to Walton's.

Dozens of times a day I would hear it when I worked at Best Buys.

That's funny because one of my former partners will tell you she works at Kroger's.

I'd say the majority of time, I use Kroger's. However, I'm also accustomed to saying Penney's instead of J.C.Penney.
