Cooper does have at least 5 kids that throw in the lower 80's. Out of the 5, 2 are sophs and 1 is a frosh. The frosh has been clocked as high as 85 mph. Not on any consistent basis though. They all will be around the 79-80 mark through at least 4 innings.

Did these kids play on the freshman and JV levels last year?

With arms as live as those I'd assume the frosh will be playing JV and above??

It's amazing to me some of the talent that high school teams across America can put together. I read Baseball America yesterday and they listed their top 25 teams. One team had 4 kids going to the U of Texas. One team had 7 D1 players. The talent difference as a whole is staggering as compared to the average high school.

Let me get this right, Cooper has at least 5 kids that throw in the low 80's? If this is true they should have no problem winning this year.

Why is it that everyone talks about how hard a kid can throw? There is a big difference between being a thrower and a pitcher. The region might have some good throwers but how many good pitchers do they have, very few. I will take a good pitcher over a thrower any time.

I'm with you old timer.... some of the best hurlers are those who can locate their pitches. Velocity is important but location is the key to being a successful pitcher.

The two Soph's have played varsity since 8th grade (Cooper's first year) and the Frosh was JV last year and will be Varsity this year. Cooper actually won some games last year. I believe they were around a .500 team. The schedule is tougher this year which is good. The talent is improving each year and over 70 kids were at tryouts for the 3 teams.

I agree completely. This will at least be the first year in the three Cooper has played that they will have any quality depth on the mound at all to speak of, so it's a start. They lost several games last year when leading after 4 or 5 and not able to close the deal.

I've lost track. Who is Cooper's head coach?

What are their names? Low 80's is pretty impressive for a Sophomore. I would like to get those guys on my summer team.

Isn't Bob Bieger still the Boss on the diamond at Cooper

AJ Collins and Jared Blank are the two Soph's and they both will play for the Ky Col's this Summer.

Yes, Bob Bieger is still the coach and has put together a great off season program and this will be his strongest team yet. Not sure if it will be enough to do damage in a strong 33rd District, but time will tell. They lost two solid Senior's from last years team but everyone else returns and most will be playing their 3rd year of varsity.

I have seen Jared throw and he is probably in the mid 70's consistently. He is a good pitcher but no where near being in the low 80's consistently. AJ is a different story. He can throw pretty well at times.
