Highlands Frosh Football 2011

Featured Replies

This past season there were 5 teams in the 3/4 , 6 teams in the 5/6 and 4 teams in the 7/8th with about 26 kids per team in the 7/8 grade and 24 per team on the 3/4-5/6 teams.

Three 8th graders have been selected to play for USA team vs the world game in July.

Who would that be? Im guessing one of them is Beau Hoge.

Is this a first year type thing? Why havent past Highlands frosh like Austin Collinsworth, Brandon Roller, Josh Conner ever play? just curious

The reason for the kids going is because of Merrill Hoge. He's the head coach of the USA team. We should ask ourselves, is there a problem with that? I don't see one. Now, many will have a problem with Merrill Hoge coaching and choosing his kid along with the other two. Why? Well, I think we all know the answer to that.

I see only positive things coming from this. For one, exposure. Anytime a parent can get their kid out in front, you do it. Whatever the forum, you do it. More exposure for the HHS program. Again, does anybody really think Dale doesn't love this kind of stuff. Heck yeah he does. And you can't blame him. Again, more exposure. Secondly, the kids get to play against "arguably" some of the better players. Yes, who is to say that any of these kids are better than anyone else. It's all subjective, but it's all part of it. You know, it's who you know right.

Listen, I an not so naive to truly believe that these three kids are part of the best 26 in the USA. Hopefully, no one else is either. If, so, then maybe they are threatened by something larger than an "All-Star" camp. The people around the program should be excited for this as it may lead to future exposure for the rest of the program. Again, the reason they are doing it. Not because they think they are better than someone else, (IMO, some will disagree with that) but because the parents want to take advantage of a opportunity that has been presented to them. I'm sure any parent would do the same. Again, why wouldn't you. I for one, am excited to go watch these boys play in July.

I would say there are some really good rb's but known that really stick out above the others..JMO

I heard that there is some big boy that is coming to Highlands from Calvary Christian (6'2" 250 lbs.) Do not know what position he plays, but that is one big kid.

Of course they would get a player from Kenton County like they always do.

Oh and FYI, very spot on post.

Wow, tdy, I didn't know you had that many words in you. I am used to the cryptic, guess what I am thinking type of post.

I agree with you 100% on this post. The more exposure the better and who cares how it happens. Use connections or any means you can. It is all good. I don't see how anyone can complain about this at all. Best of luck to these three and to Coach Hoge.

My son grew up playing youth sports with a boy who lived in Ft Thomas but ended up attending Calvary Christian.

Thanks and it seems to make sense with Merrill coaching. Should be a great experience for the kids.

Yeah only if a school in Kenton County gave them a reason to stay...

Are there any really good running backs that will be freshmen next year?

This should be one of the more interesting battles of the summer and fall. Those that played running back last year in the FTJFL were Griffin Urlage, Brady Murray, Josh Watson and Jacob Noe. Pat Schoepf may be in the mix as well, but he was forced to play tight end last year because of the weight limit rules. Agree with Raiderbird that none of them really stick out over the other, but are more than capable of doing the job.

Is Jakey Whitford playing? If he is he could be in the mix as well..
