The Finals Have Proven We Can't Have 6 Classes

Featured Replies

This would also enable the finals to conclude during November. I think it is crazy for a state with as few football schools as Ky to stretch the thing into December. In Ky, that is B-ball season.

Football should not have to take a back seat to basketball.

2007 and 2008 there were a lot of competitive games. In fact, almost all those games were competitive. So 2 years of 6 class football the title games were good and 2 years they weren't. The jury is still out if you look at it that way.

In 08', 3 of the 6 games were competitive and in 07', depends what you mean competitive. 1a and 6a were close, the other games were decided by 10 points or more with a couple of blowouts. There were a few games very good, but the majority were decided before the 4th quarter.

6 classes is ridiculous. Supplement that with pretty much every team in Ky making the playoffs in which you might as well give them a participation red ribbon similar to what your receive at your 8th Grade Olympic Day event. The playoffs just aren't the same as they used to be.

3 classes is enough, but 4 would be acceptable. 6 is too many and waters down the championships imo.

Move to Ohio and it won't.

The very thought is repulsive.

You guys need to get over it.

Shoot, the stinkin' Super Bowl is most often a blowout.

Blowouts in championships are not that unusual.

No kidding. Cheese anyone? Look at the Tennessee scores most of them were blow outs as well.

Last 11 Super Bowl margins: 14,4,3,12,11,3,3,27,3,27,7

I believe there are 6 classes in TN also (3 Divisions with 2 classes each?). And they had to change their whole system this year because they were not happy with so many teams making the playoffs with losing records. And I don't know how you define blowouts for superbowls, but the average margin the last 5 years has been 8 points and over 10 years it has been 10 points. That would be a dream for this years finals. And only 8 teams make the playoffs in the pros compared to 30 for each class in Kentucky.

Now, you could make the argument for Ohio's playoffs this year, though. But, we only need 3 classes in Kentucky and it would be so much more exciting for district, regional, and final play. Every game would mean so much more and I think you would have different winners. You would probably have the same cream of the crop, but they would be battling each other for 3 titles instead of 6. Much more competitive and fun to watch. Unless you are a fan of Mayfield, Boyle, NC, Highlands, or Trinity, was it really fun and exciting to watch every game or even the playoffs. A few games were nice but for most part, you knew the winner before you showed up.

There would be 9-10 teams per district. To me to many district games. With only 1 or 2 weeks to play old rivalries and bowl games. I believe 4 or 5 but we are stuck with 6 for 4 more years.

Which would be bring up another great way to make it fun. You could have 10 team districts but split into east and west like in college. They could play 4 or 5 district games, 3 or 4 rival or out of district games, and have championship game to determine the seeds for the playoffs. Just a thought.

Or you could do it like the big ten and not have everyone play each other every year and if it is tie, base the seeds on some sort of tie breaker.

It is ridiculous to have 42-0, 50-0, 38-0, 47-6 and 46-7 final games.

The KHSAA needs to rethink the "let's include everyone and let them all experience the playoffs" garbage.
