December 6, 201015 yr When are they expected to announce something? The way I heard it, there would be a decision, at the latest, by today.
December 6, 201015 yr Because Newton never got the money Kanter did................................That is the difference..........Seriously take the Blue colored glasses off for a second. Of course they are trying to get a recruit eligible. I think the NCAA guidelines doesn't split hairs on whether the money actually exchanged hands. If the letter of the law is to be followed, Newton is inelgible the second Cam's father tried to shop him around. The point I'm making is this: The situations are similar enough that either both are elgible, or neither are. Just my opinion.
December 6, 201015 yr Because Newton never got the money Kanter did................................That is the difference..........Seriously take the Blue colored glasses off for a second. Now obviously UK felt they could not win the appeal or other wise they would have stuck with that instead of causing more of a delay. Now do i feel the kid should be ineligible? No..................but some of you are stretching this into poor UK they are the martyr here against the big bad NCAA. Well..................if Kanter went to Washington you would not care one bit so lets not go over board in our UK is fighting the good fight for some moral reason...................They are fighting to get a recruit eligible and they should but lets not cannonize the university for sainthood. Actually, if the rumors are true, Kanter was going to win his appeal. Difference is that he was going to be forced to sit out this entire season. UK didn't like that & went for the "Cam Newton Appeal." For me, it's not about "poor UK...against the big bad NCAA." It's about the inconsistency and blatant hypocrisy of the NCAA. For Reggie Bush, his parents' wrongdoing was equal to his/USC's wrongdoing. For Cam Newton, it was a different story. Why? Because the NCAA has a big payday on the line w/ Newton. Once they cash in on his abilities, the hammer will drop on Auburn. Give it about 2-3 years.
December 6, 201015 yr Author Of course they are trying to get a recruit eligible. I think the NCAA guidelines doesn't split hairs on whether the money actually exchanged hands. The point I'm making is this: The situations are similar enough that either both are elgible, or neither are. Just my opinion. EXACTLY! The parents and family of a recruit ARE the recruit as the NCAA is concern. I heard UK, and other schools, thought UK had a good case and a good chance to begin with. BUT, with the Newton case setting a precedent, why not follow that route? As a precedent was just set, wouldn't that be the best bet? It does back the NCAA against the wall.
December 6, 201015 yr The problem with the NCAA is they don't seem to have any problem ignoring past precedents. These two situations might make them a little uncomfortable since they're so close together though.
December 6, 201015 yr When are they expected to announce something? The way I heard it, there would be a decision, at the latest, by today. That has all changed, no one knows how long it will be now.
December 6, 201015 yr Seems I'm not the only one who thinks the NCAA has backed itself into the proverbial "corner." http://espn.go.com/blog/collegebasketballnation/post/_/id/19336/newton-case-opens-door-for-uk-kanter
December 7, 201015 yr Sportsfan41 I'm with ya a 100 percent! Go Big Blue! Man I love this guy. He loves the Enes, thats for sure.
December 8, 201015 yr Suprised that its Wenesday and we haven't heard a peep of news this week. It's back in the hands of the NCAA now not the appeals committee so who knows who long they will take.
December 8, 201015 yr It's back in the hands of the NCAA now not the appeals committee so who knows who long they will take. Correct, but I'm still suprised considered they had Cam Newton's case heard and ruled on in less than a day from the time he was declared ineligible. You would think this would be a high priority issue by now, and would expect a similar time frame, but like you say, who knows with the NCAA. They just seem to do what they want.
December 8, 201015 yr Suprised that its Wenesday and we haven't heard a peep of news this week. Oscar Combs says UK will know by next Friday (the 17th).
