Fair or not 28-22 at Miami in a conference as weak as the ACC, not nearly good enough.

Had to be done. Amazing we've come from "Miami is back" last season to this. Even earlier this year hopes were high.

Before the game today, there was a plane flying around the Sun Life Stadium pulling a sign that said, "No Excuses Fire Shannon."

Charlie Strong, come on down... :walk:

Nice guy who has done a good job with the kids on and off the field but the bottom line is wins when you have been at the top of the heap. Imo his recruiting has been much too focused on the Miami high school area. Maybe now they will reach out and get the kids necessary to get them back to where they need to be to compete. Hopefully the next coach will continue to recruit good kids and not take a step back to the thug type that got them their bad rap. I for one have been a big "U" fan for 20+ years and I believe they can get the right type kids and still be competitive. South Florida will not support this team unless they can compete year in and year out for a national championship. I would love to see them get Butch Davis back but don't know his current status contractwise with North Carolina or whether they would even be interested in bringing him back after jumping to the pros.

Are Miami football and Indiana basketball equivalents?

Dan Mullen is getting a lot of heat for that job.

Strong would be a logical candidate, but if they want to win big quick, they should be dialing up Petrino.

Good guy, good assistant, bad head coach. I can handle a loss to OSU and VT but losses to UVA, UCF and the beat down to their main rival is not acceptable. I think the media made them out to be "back" when the fact is they are still a mid range team in a pretty average conference. The move to the ACC hasn't been such a good thing if you ask me.

This shouldn't be a surprise. After the progress that they made last season and what they have done this season with what came back to the team is completely unacceptable. I have to admit that I didn't think that Miami would be this bad this season.

I can't wait to hear all the names that will be thrown around with this job. It's not a top 5 job in college football , but it is top 10!

I know what I said yesterday, but I feel awful for saying it. I hate to see anyone lose their job, I didn't think it would come true. Honestly he was not the right man for the job IMO, but unless Miami hits a home run this could be a very bad thing.

My wish list:

1. Dan Mullen or Bobby Petrino (Arkansas could pay him more, especially after this season)

2. Mike Gundy (probably won't happen, OSU has deep pockets)

3. Charlie Strong

4. Pat Fitzgerald

5. Call me crazy but I really wouldn't be opposed to Rich Rodriquez.

Grduen's name has been thrown around and that really makes me want to cry. How embarrassing is it going to be for him to laugh in the face of a reporter who is going to ask that? The Miami faithful are crazy. Leach was a hot name last time, but I might sell my Miami gear if he's hired....he is a joke IMO. Tommy Tubs coming would ruin my Christmas. 2.5 million to 3 million is the amount of money I've seen linked to the new coach.

GT I don't know if you have this kind of connection, but could you keep me updated if you hear anything?

Very good article by columnist Gregg Doyel on Shannon and his success in cleaning up the Miami program. There is a lot of truth to what he says and it is sad but so true in today's major college sports programs, winning seems to trump all.

Doyel knows nothing about the situation. Shalala has often praised Randy for his work off of the field, but if the team isn't playing for the coach he needs to go no matter how good of a guy he is. The players could see what was happening, look at Miami's recruiting class right now, it has about 6 kids in it, including two that won't stay unless a miracle happens (Bridgewater).
