He got knocked silly on the Highlands punt right before he took himself out on the next drive. You could tell he was a little foggy. On 3rd down, he went back in. Then on 4th, he punted. After the punt, the ref came over to the sideline and told coach Newton to have the trainer look at him. They looked him over, then let him go back out for the next series for a play or two, and then I believe the trainer had him pulled. That's when Pike had words with the trainer. As for Pike saying something to Cohorn, the two go back and forth a lot. Pike will get on him, and Cohorn will get on Pike. It's their competitive nature, not one showing up the other.

 

Thanks for clearing that up Nees that's good info! First time i've seen them play, clearly Pike is a big time competitor. :thumb:

Highlands didn't get pressure tonight but it looked like the game plan. Hopefully that is true. The defensive ends got about 4 yards upfield and then slowed down. do they either were coached to keep Pike in the pocket or the DE's really struggled.

Maybe the game plan was to keep Pike in the pocket? Someone already commented that he had some issues with the accuracy of his throws. Maybe HHS thought Pike is more dangereous when it is a broken play and he is scrambling.

I was there. Near the sideline and have been there before during Dixie games as I am a fan of many NKY teams and enjoy H.S. football. I have to say I have NEVER, EVER heard a player talk to fellow players, coaches and staff like that QB does. Foul language, bitter and just plain mean. Sorry for telling it like it is. But I believe the Red Colonel fans and their sons are about fed up. How much more can they take? That should have been stopped years ago. Yes, I have played the game. I have coached. So I know what I'm talking about. I know there is frustration on the sidelines, and emotion and tough talk, but I was shocked the first time I saw that behavior on the Dixie sidelines. Now I am just over it.

And no..I am not calling out a single player. I am calling out the program for allowing that to happen and continue. I do believe a certain player was benched at one point because of behavior

I concur with Nees....Pike was out because of being dazed. You could see him shaking his head out on the field and I saw him stumble backwards on the sideline. The words were with the trainer not the coaches.

The 3 huge plays which have already been discussed (int return=TD, kickoff return=TD, Bruns fumble with Dixie closing in on a TD) all huge momentum changers.

 

Thought Pike was pretty accurate last night for the most part....a couple off target, but had 3 or 4 catchable balls dropped as well.

 

Towles throws a nice ball. If I saw one vulnerable spot for Highlands it was their offensive line. I was not very impressed. Didn't open holes for the running backs and didn't give Towles time to pass...maybe they just had an off night.... or maybe Dixie's defense just played really well....dunno.

 

Not a bad game to watch...Dixe needed a break or two but they just went the other way.

Funny. And agree 100%. Gold had an outstanding game. And The Dixie O-line gave the QB huge amounts of time. At one point..I believe in the 4th... the QB had a couple of Birds hanging on him and he could not see an open man down field. Dixie QB is a big kid.. he finally saw the man and launched the ball and made the play. That was impressive. And the Dixie D-line played tough.

Honest and curious question to the HHS faithful nothing more nothing less:

Do you think Dale is happy with the teams performance?

 

42-14 win in the first district game is important no doubt. So you have to say we are "happy." I think the defense and special teams were excellent. Daniel Gold did his best AC imitation with his catch and run for the long TD in the 2nd half.

 

As far as Coach Mueller being happy, of course he's disappointed with the multiple penalties (probably >10) so there's still a lot to work on. I'm confident that the tape of the game will be used to make adjustments as always. With the bye week next Friday the Birds have 2 weeks until their next district game.

 

Many teams may not play their absolute best game and lose... HHS has such great balance on both sides of the ball (as many posters have commented on many times) that they can have an off night by some and still win 42-14.

Birds had, I believe, 9 penalties for 55 yards.

Somebody said it earlier. Highlands being Highlands. Finding a way to win when things are not perfect or ever goin to be perfect. A Highlands not so perfect night is the rest of NKY perfect night. Some Highlands fans are not happy with the Win, I find that odd. A Win is a Win, regardless of whether it was a sloppy performance. I dont panic because I have seen Highlands much much better offensively. People may find that odd scoring 28 pts and still winning but things just didnt go as planned. Was it the Dixie D, I say yes, they caused a few problems and played Highlands better than anyone all yr, give them some credit. Bottom line is the "Good Lord" pls help the poor team that Highlands plays that perfect game against. Uhm, that perfect game on O and D last yr was a 12 to 7 game. And oh yeah, the Birds turned the ball over 3 or 4 times and still Won. LOL , Go Birds 20n10

Nice article by Ryan Ernst. Just read it, geez, he must be a BGPer. LOL. I think the ultimate stopper was with Dixie driving in the 3rd with score 28 to 14 and the Jet Sweep gets blown up and the Birds recover. Highlands O recogonizes the opportunity and seizes the moment with a TD, great job O. Who knows, Dixie takes it in and cuts it to 28 to 21 an pulls off an onsides and we have a game on our hands. I know this didnt happen and no one will ever know but just a thought. Ill gurantee you Coach Spritzky would agree with this. For those that were not at the game, I am personally think Dixie is much better than the score indicated. They will beat the teams that they will need to in order to meet the Birds again.
