Did you see my comment (Post #8) about him looking dazed? Never saw him get hit, but he seemed a little unsteady on his feet at times on the sidelines. Like I said also, it looked like Pike and one of the coaches were having a animated conversation.

By saying didn't see him get hit, I am meaning didn't see him get tagged hard enough to be so groggy on the sidelines.

 

A kid the size of Pike will take hits that may not look disturbing or vicious to him or from a spectators viewpoint from the stands but would flatten or knock out a smaller QB say 6'-2 190 lbs or so. You being an Old Guy should know that.

My partners and I discussed the same thing during the game.

 

I'm sure Dale wasn't happy with the penalties...and that's probably the most work Weinel has seen all season.

If anything, Pike's lower body will be sore tomorrow. I didn't see any Bluebird defender try to tackle him up high. Everything was at the waist and below. Fundamental tackling at it's finest.

A-I'm happy with the win. I think they played sloppy at times but had some very good plays also. Maybe Dixie had something to do with it. Maybe Dixie is a pretty good team. Maybe we are spoiled a bit with the winning.

 

B-I think Dales is happy with the win. Sure there are areas he thinks were not up to HHS standards. He's a perfectionist as is every coach. Now he heads into the BYE week and gets ready for the Blue Colonels.

Quite true but Pike has been know to be a hard nose kid that can take a hit. Honestly I had my binoculars on him and he seemed to be groggy and at one point seemed to be quite unsteady on his feet. BTW did you notice that after not being the QB, he tried to come out to punt the ball but was called back and he seemed rather upset about it.

 

What I am not sure of, was he hurt enough to be taken out, or were the Dixie coaches upset with his play and benched him?

Happy is not the word. I was excited to see Highlands score ways they have not scored yet this yr against a very good team. Ryan Ernst said it earlier this week in the paper. "Big time players will make big time plays" in this game. Special teams score, int score for D, crucial forced fumble with Dixie driving and poised to score. These are plays that very, very good football teams do when their bread and butter isnt hitting on all cylinders. You better believe I am happy sitting 7-0 with a bye week and getting ready for Sr Night in Ft Thomas against our biggest rival. See Post #32. This is a pretty good Dixie team imo which could throw a wrench into and change the outcome on some games that most are already predicting. I say not so fast, beware other Dist opponents. They had a nice game plan imo which I wont talk about in detail on here for obvious reasons.

Dematteo surprised me tonight. Did a great job on the defensive side of the ball and he seems very capable of running the Dixie O if something were to happen to Pike. He showed some nice speed on a few of his runs to the outside. Against other teams not named Highlands, he might've taken a few of those for long distances. Highlands closing speed is simply unreal though. 5 and 6 guys at the ball every time.

On one of the passing plays in the 3rd quarter he and one of the receivers were not on the same page with the route. He let the receiver know then came to the sidelines and was still upset.

The boys definetly followed through with the gameplan. That's why Pike didn't have a big game rushing. Every hit on him was low which didn't allow him to use his size and strength to simply run over smaller guys.

All of these things mentioned are a coaches greatest fear of a "superhero". Perhaps he was indeed benched because of his comments and actions. Not real sure, I am not a big fan of bashing kids (not saying you or anyone else is btw) at this level because they are just young 18 yr olds. I did find the Rick Flair pose to be be somewhat awkward though. Didnt really get that one but then again they are just kids.

He got knocked silly on the Highlands punt right before he took himself out on the next drive. You could tell he was a little foggy. On 3rd down, he went back in. Then on 4th, he punted. After the punt, the ref came over to the sideline and told coach Newton to have the trainer look at him. They looked him over, then let him go back out for the next series for a play or two, and then I believe the trainer had him pulled. That's when Pike had words with the trainer. As for Pike saying something to Cohorn, the two go back and forth a lot. Pike will get on him, and Cohorn will get on Pike. It's their competitive nature, not one showing up the other.

Maybe the game plan was to keep Pike in the pocket? Someone already commented that he had some issues with the accuracy of his throws. Maybe HHS thought Pike is more dangereous when it is a broken play and he is scrambling.

I thought the refs looked the other way a few times tonight. There was a borderline late hit out of bounds on the Dixie sideline by Highlands and no call, which I agreed with, but Dixie fans wanted it. Then a couple of pushes ended with a Dixie player busting the Highlands player in the chops, again no call, and one really, really obvious illegal motion call against Dixie when the receiver was not set for a second and then moved forward looked at the ref, the ball was snapped and once again, no call.

Was not all that happy with the game tonight. There were bright spots, heck we won 42 to 14. But I can't ever remember soo many penalties on the offense and the were legit. It was a win and congrats to the birds but I stop short at calling it a good game.

 

Dixie on the other hand looked like a much more athletic Dixie team than I have seen in some time. When Pike went out I thought he had a concussion. Listening to some of the Dixie fans on here it may have been in his head but it wasn't from being hit.
