With the JV and freshman games this week (JV 69-6 HHS, frosh 53-0, I think Towles has a lot more reinforcements to help him at Highlands than Pike will have at Dixie. The class of Towles sets him apart from the brashness of Pike. Both are quality players but one IMO has the temperment that coaches love.

Describing what someone observes from the stands is not bashing. I wish him well but hope his attitude doesn't hold him back.

Being a NewCath fan has nothing to do with it. I was not any where near the game. I did not post anything after the the Dixie v. NCC game about Pike. My input comes from a 100% reliable source. If you are a Dixie fan you cannot deny this.

Jumping in late here but thought I would give make a few comments about the game.

 

I watched the game live on the internet and that interception by Ty Seidl was the play of the year so far. You talk about concentration and then finding a way to the endzone, that was awesome. What might have been more awesome than the run was the way the Highlands defense formed a wall on the left side of the field and just started picking people off. I saw DH players on roller skates and it almost looked like a punt return.

 

As far as Pike, he had happy fee a lot and was trapped in the pocket many times so he couldnt scramble. His best pass was the roll out 33 yrd BB he threw to Cohorn who did the tightrope act and hauled in the TD. That was quite impressive on both their parts.

 

Towles is a better QB IMO because he is more elusive and faster. PT loves to tuck and run and he knows his size is a huge advantage when running in the open field.

 

Daniel Gold had an outstanding game, that kid can fly and he made some beautiful receptions.

 

The Defense was smacking people, especially Pike. Devin Bruns seemed to be getting doubleteamed most of the game, I can understand why DH did that with the season he is having.

 

Props to the Dixie RB SEth Bruns, he comes from some very athletic bloodlines and I thought he was very good. Dixie has a nice combiination of having a stud QB, fast RB in Bruns and very very good WR in Cohorn. Their line is pretty big and gave Pike tons of time so they have a very solid offense. I think they can advance in the playoffs and possibly get to Paintsville to take on JC.

 

A win is a win at the end of the day and like Sweeperboy said, we will take 7-0 going into the Bye week.

Zeke Pike is simply an amazing athelete. To be a main part of a prety good defense, and a very good quarterback in the same game is a whole lot to ask of a young man. Put Patrick Towels at middle LB on defense, and see how well he does in the 4th qtr. if he can make it that far.

That's coaching then. They have to decide which is more important. If the guy is winded in the 4th how can he play either position to the best of his ability? And once again, no one at HHS plays both ways for a reason. Wouldnt you think that Coach Mueller would put a D. Gold at safety or an Abner at WR because they are the best athlete's? He does what he does for a reason not just because he can.

That is why it is tough for any quarterback to play both ways. Towles is a good athlete and probably could play both ways, if necessary. Fortunately, it is not necessary.

That's certainly one way to look at it, but I don't believe anyone does. Perhaps a better scenario would be to allow Pike to play only QB (or LB, if you believe that is his stonger position) for the entire game, and see if it improves his performance late in the game. I think that is what many of the posters in this thread, and all season, have been espousing.

Pike imo was more impressive on Defense. I stated earlier that he had no business playing D and I meant playing D if he is also trying to play QB. No way can you get the best out of a talent like Pike if you play him both ways against a team like Highlands. He did it effectively against all other teams this yr leading up to the Birds but Highlands has too much SPEED. Dixie is missing about 2 really good players and perhaps they could have matched up a little better this yr. JMO. Go Birds 20n10
