Who?

Generally speaking the kids who play those sports have additional athleticism, agility, quickness, and change of direction because they have been developing those skills in other sports to coincide with their physicality from playing football. Basketball and the sprint sports in track and field develop those quick-twitch muscles that help explosiveness in football.

My dad was a three-sport coach way, way back in the day. Football, wrestling, and track/field. Rare was the football player of his that didn't participate in one of the other two - especially track.

Very common for o-lineman to also double up as wrestlers because it helps with footwork and keeping your hands inside.

I have heard alot about the Ft Thomas Jr Football league being a huge part of Highlands success at the Varsity level. Correct me if I am wrong (which I know everyone will) but at the Highlands-Cov Cath Frosh game last week I was told that 4-5 of the better players on Highlands Frosh team played in the Red Devils youth program. If that is the case I think this would tip the biggest reason for continued success to attracting top players to come to Highlands.

My guess is that the majority of the people who start these stupid threads aren't adults who have contributed directly to the program. They are either directly out of high school, in high school, or have moved into Ft. Thomas for their kids b/c they feel that little Johnny is the next all state player.

I had to laugh when I read this.

I actually know Wildcat. Like Guru said he's not a Highlands fan but you are way off on your post.

Highlands will get beat at some point but overall the program will continue being on top!

Not at Highlands...no grappling...

There are 4 that I know of Hergott, Wrobleski, Schweitzer, and Harris. Hergott and Wrobleski grew up in Ft.Thomas and just so happened to play for the Red Devils. I am not sure where Harris or Schweitzer live. I believe there are 40 or more players on the team. I think the biggest thing the FTJFL does is give the Birds teams a lot of depth that can play. I also believe if your kid is not a marginal or average player at a young age. They could be better served to play in the NKYFL if the child and parents want to play at a more competitive level. I have been involved in both and have seen each side. The FTJFL develops all the kids and the NKYFL develops the top 11-15 kids..JMO

I know of players from Ft Thomas who played in the FTJFL for a couple years, then joined the Red Devils for various reasons, then returned to play at HHS. That may be the case with those players. I think anyone who's followed HHS football for any time will agree that the FTJFL has a much larger place in their success than what you've described.

Not way off. Wildcat may not be a Highlands fan, but there are a ton of threads and posts that trumpet Highlands greatness to unrealistic levels. Most of those who do so have not contributed directly to the program, or are young graduates. Reread the post.

I know that Harris had two older brothers that played at NewCath. I would have liked to have seen him go up to NewCath, but its hard to argue w/ his decision. That class will attract a ton of college scouts to their games. You can't go wrong w/ NewCath or Highlands academically, so if you are looking to play beyond high school, it is best to go to the place that gives you the best chance.

I read the post. You stated he was probably a young person, moved to Ft Thomas, yada, yada. NONE of which is true. Oh wait you were right on one thing he's not apart of the Highlands program. :thumb:

The older these kids get the bigger they get. As 75center has said, players sometimes leave to play in another league only to return as Freshman. In the FTJFL, we have certain regulations on weight for certain Skilled positions and more than likely 4 of the 6 players that have been mentioned would not have bneen able to play their respective positions the are playing now.

Again, look it, it says the majority of people. At know point does it single out an individual. It also mentions threads of this sort.

This is the biggest fallacy out there for going to Highlands. Every year there are Highlands players that everyone thinks are all world or close to it who don't get the college offers everyone thinks they should. Go to Highlands because it is a great school and if you feel you will develop best there as a football player. But don't go there thinking it will be a ticket to a college scholarship. In football, God given athleticism and size are 75% of whether you get a college scholarship and going to Highlands doesn't change that. The other 25% is working your rear off to get the most out of your God given abilities. Highlands can help you with that for sure but you can do that at New Cath and many other programs as well. I know everyone thinks their 8th grade Johnny is the next Heisman winner and if he is, he doesn't need to go to Highlands. So go to Highlands to be part of one of the best programs and schools in the state but please don't go there because scouts will see you and/or you are expecting a college scholarship.

So you are telling me that NewCath or Beechwood attract as many scouts as Highlands? Would you not say that you have a better chance at getting a look, when your team gets greater exposure? I never said that he would get a full ride. What I said was that this class will attract a ton of attention from college scouts. THIS is a special class. Taking all the alternatives there are in NKY, I think that it is safe to assume for a kid from Campbell County, that Highlands provides the best chance to be seen. Unless you are a "Can't Miss," it helps to get as much exposure as you can. Case in point is NewCath's present head coach. He was a DI safety in high school He was, but he never got the looks. He was hurt by playing at a small school. Obviously it worked out great for him, but if he were at Trinity or Highlands he would have had a full ride to a DI school.
