Glad you're cleared up on that now.

I would argue that the FTJFL takes all of those marginal players and elevates them to the level of those 11-15 over in the NKYFL.

 

I TOTALLY agree and have tried to explain this concept to others who ask for the "secret formula". Many players that develope between say: 5th and 8th grade, are not lost because they were not in top 20 athletes during those years but continued to play gaining experience, Once they mature physically they were ready to play freshman/JV/varsity. Think about it....unlike other areas, by the time Fort Thomas kids reach Freshman year they have 2 or 3 kids with quarterback experience, 5 to 7 with running back experience, and 12 to 15 with line time since all got a chance to play since 4th grade. From what I understand other areas select only the best out of each class to make the "select' team for 6th, 7th and 8th grade leagues. Who cares about those championships....I"ll take a state title over peewee championships every time. IMO

In talking directly with Mueller and Flynn on several occasions on the subject (with Flynn as recently as a home game this year; we often stand next to one another in the south endzone and talk to each other a lot), both have looked me directly in the eye and told me that they are totally fine with the basketball players playing football, and the football players playing basketball. They actually encourage it because they believe the athletic skills used in one sport actually help the other sport. For anyone to deny that, they are calling Mueller, Flynn or me a liar.

Is there anyone out there that would dare to start a new thread polling NKY BGP'ers on their opinion as to which NKY varsity teams would be likely to lose a straight-up match against the Highlands Bluebirds JV squad? I would think there would be more than a couple.

I totally agree. I hear that Highlands may be starting up their own website for their bloggers called... "BluebirdPreps.com" complete with links to Ft. Thomas real estate listings and a "how to" guide for making the back of your school look like a walking billboard.

Why is there a thread on this subject? If anyone checks the records it is obvious Highlands has always had a strong program since 1959 and probably well before. Out of the 50 years since 1959 Highlands has been in the finals of the 2nd level class 50% of time and won 80% of those appearances. It will be news worthy if Highlands is NOT a strong program whose fans and students expect to be in the finals each year.

Agree. Don't know who Wildcat is and can't confirm if he is really a Highlands fan. So take it for what it is worth.:idunno:
