Who all is playing up in next years alignment?

Featured Replies

With their current school enrollment, Cooper would be a 5A school. They are currently listed as a 4A for next year because of numbers used from the first two years of the schools young life. Current enrollment would put Cooper at a 5A size.

You are correct. :thumb: I have seen their numbers for this year.

Why is Boyle wanting to move up to 5A?

Because Highlands is moving to 4A. :sssh:

;)

So assuming Cooper gets bumped down to 4A, would the new nky district consist of:

Highlands

Cooper

Holmes

Pendleton Co

Covcath

Where does this leave Scott and Dixie? I believe Dixie is going back to 6A.

Scott would go to 5, Dixie to 6.

According to the Herald-Leader they did. I can't imagine they'll get approved considering Mercer County and Marion County are both going to be in 4A.

I never say this in the Herald Leader. Is there a link or place to look on their archives?

It was in one of Mike Fields' columns a couple of weeks ago.

Yeah, thats it, I meant to say a couple of days ago, not a couple of weeks ago.

Why would Ohio Co. or Greenwood want to play 6A football? Can anyone verify their request to play up?

The KHSAA has really messed this football class, alignment thing up long enough now that's it quit being comical. IF you want six classes, how hard is it to simply set an enrollment number for each class making the classes as close as possible in number of teams, and roll.

Seems easy enough to me.

In western Kentucky, a lot of people feel that 5A is tougher than 6A because of the presence of Bowling Green and Christian County.

Personally, one of those schools moving up could save the KHSAA some trouble when Nelson County, one of the 6A programs, splits into two schools in 2012. Otherwise, that 6A district could be at three teams for one year.

The KHSAA sent out an e-mail several weeks ago to the ADs, coaches, principals and supers, to inform them of the reclassification. It said that the only thing that would be taken into consideration when asking for a move in class was "geographical concerns" What has been posted in other threads is accurate, as far as who is supposed to play in what class. My concern is not that someone might be allowed to play up, but what the motivation of the move is. Some of those on the list have no geographical argument. I believe the KHSAA wants to move a couple of schools around to keep the classes "balanced". That is their right. They are the governing body, but just call it what it is. Tell everyone why you are doing it.

A lot of inference going on here about teams "running" from other teams. Walter even mentioned the Highlands "Fear Factor." Ironcially when the 6 class system was instituted Highlands "played up" for geographic reasons. (And have a good argument for having done so)

However what does it gain to say, "HHS was really running because the Birds had won only 1 State Title from 2001 to 2006?" They knew 5A did not contain Boyle, Bell, or Lex Cath.

Now I think on the surface a Bird Hater could make the argument that Highlands was "dodging" teams that had decent records vs. them

But in reality I don't think that was why they "played up."

So why not cut the other teams some slack as they consider their options? :idunno:

Hatz, I believe Highlands (3A) and Covington Catholic (4A) both played up to 5A because there were no northern Kentucky schools in their classes. Dixie Heights, Holmes, and Scott were all in 5A so putting Highlands and Covington Catholic with those three made perfect geographic sense. In reality, if Highlands had just bumped up to 4A alongside Catholic, they still would have been geographically isolated.

At the same time, it appears that Boyle and some others wanting to play up are dodging. I'm not wanting to question Boyle's motives, but when there are 3-4 same class schools within 30 +/- minutes from your schools, then you are not geographically isolated.

There's too much evidence here not to question some of these schools. Lexington Catholic is the only one with a serious case, and it is glaring that the other schools have made requests contrary to what they have previously done.

Harrison County and Pendleton County have never made requests to play up, and the geographic situations they will be in now are probably better than they were before - definitely in Pendleton County's case. So why now?

Johnson Central made a request to move to 4A in the previous alignment due to geographic and population concerns. It was an understandable request, as they are traveling 2+ hours to a couple of their district opponents, and the likes of Lawrence County, Ashland, etc. that are in 4A District 8 are right there. So now that they are going to be placed there, what do they do? Request to be shipped back where they will likely have no district teams within an hour and half of them.
