1A Outlook for 2010

Was the above "semi final in Ft Mitchell" post referring to the "tradition" or the fact it will be a "LONG" trip to Ft Mitchell and BW will have home filed advantage?

I wasn't necessarily talking about either. I agree that a major bus ride will be tough on whomever makes the trip. I'm simply alluding to the fact that with many opponents, Beechwood is viewed a notch above. When it comes to Mayfield, Beechwood doesn't have that edge. Nothing more, nothing less.

Also, Northeastern KY 1A District was paired with Beechwood's District for so many years, it didn't matter how good your team was because you met your demise in the early rounds of the playoffs. Some schools would make beating Beechwood as much of a goal as trying to win the 1A Title. Just sayin'.

Larimore, Genal, Mathews

One hasn't been around for two years. they other hasnt been around this year.....so, really only missing Mathews. I'm sure they would like to have Manillo (sp) and Slusher too. If they boys don't want to participate, isn't much coach can do about that.....

I don't think it is that they don't want to participate. All three of them would love to be suiting up on Friday nights. But there are injuries and other factors that come into play in football and unfortunately those factors worked against these three. The good news is the Tigers have a luxury of talent that will help overcome the loss.

Long way to go till the friday after Thanksgiving . Injuries , weather, teams overlooking teams. If Mayfield is fortunate enough to get to the semi-final game this game could go down to the wire. Mayfield is somewhat similiar in talent this year as in last years team . Not as much speed but smart and they will have more power in the backfield. They should be very good on defense. Mayfield has a 9th grader that I was impressed with, his name is Mills. I guess the question is has Beechwood closed the gap from last year? One final note, 00 Rocket, Critt. Co has Mayfields attention.

That's well said. I think back to all of the really good Raceland teams over the years and until a change in the playoff setup in 2006, the Rams were 4-24 all time in the postseason. Many other old northeastern 1A teams were in a similar boat.

No love for Crittenden? They had Mayfield beat in the playoffs last year, and if not for a blocked punt late in the 4th, they likely would have been playing in the Championship. Pretty sure they're bringing back a lot of players as well. Losing JD Gray hurts a lot but they still have a strong core and Starnes will have them ready like he always does.

Crittenden County is always good. And they always seem to have solid seasons, even when they are "down." But while I expect the Rockets to stay in the Top 10 all season, I don't believe they will be able to crack the Top 5. But I've been wrong before.

And since we are 7-4, losing to NCC (who won the State Championship) in 2006 and LCA in 2007, 2008(State Runner up), and 2009(State Champion). And being in the Regional Championship every year. Big difference.

Does Hazard rank in this group? I would likely drop them just a slight spot below Mayfield and LCA.

Pre-season, Hazard is somewhere in the top 4. They only lost one skill kid on a talented offensive unit from last year. Their defense will tell the tale on how far the Bulldogs go this season.

Do they belong in the discussion, yes. I believe Mayfield is preseason #1 with Beechwood #2.

I think the big question in 1A outlook as the season approaches is what is the outlook for Lexington Christian. They are the defending champs, have been consistently one of the top teams in 1A year in and year out and they have perhaps the best player in 1A in Zach West.

My preseason top 10

1) Mayfield

2) LCA

3) Hazard

4) Beechwood

5) Holy Cross

6) Frankfort

7) Raceland

8) Crittenden Co

9) Fairview

10) Pikeville

Mayfield very well could be #1. Beechwood with all the young talent they had last year should be right with MHS. Who knows about LCA this year. They lost tons of talent. But they also seem to reload each year! hum!! They also lost a great coach. So who knows... Everything depends on health. Ask Frankfort last year.. Hazard and Pikeville both should be tops in their regions. Fairview could surprise some. If they don't get in trouble. I hear the state is looking into some of the players that came from Huntington, WVa. Same school OJ Mayo and Paterick Patterson played their high school ball. Raceland Rams are really young on the line. And they play a tough non district schedule. 1-5A school, 2-4A and 3A Fleming Co.. Crittenden Co will be as about 99% of the time looking up hill to Mayfield. I don't know anything about Holy Cross except the city they play in..lol

Bluto ... you keeping the wraps on LCA or can you fill us in on expectations among the LCA faithful?

Everything depends on health. Ask Frankfort last year..

I would say our newbie hit the nail square on the head
