That' a cop out. Every team says their goal is to win a State Championship. Tells us, do you think Beechwood will beat Mayfield this year.

Your post is the cop out ..... there are a few teams that can say that as a goal--and actually have a chance at it. Beechwood is one of them.

Mayfield is the favorite .... I have no clue what will happen this season.

My post is a cop out? Evidently you don't know what that phrase means, what I stated was a fact - every team has a goal to win a State Championship, just like every play is designed to score a touchdown.

So, you say only "a few teams" have a chance to win a State Championship, please enlighten us with who those teams are so everyone is not just wasting time trying to do something they don't have a chance of doing.

Wow ... Bo and Luke Duke must have you tangled up in knots ... and obviously Roscoe P. Coaltrain isn't able to get you untangled.

The point was pretty obvious ... but I will break it down for you point by point.

1. You are correct that nearly every team has the goal of winning the state championship (BUT--some actually EXPECT IT--and there is a huge difference).

2. Very few teams that claim a state championship as a goal--are actually good enough consistently (meaning just about every year) to have a CHANCE to win the state championship. (Again--pretty sure it isn't a goal at Beechwood--it is the expectation. Probably hard for you and Roscoe to understand the difference between a goal and an expectation ... but there is a difference up here for us Yankee's).

3. Beechwood is one of those teams--and that isn't going to change in the near future.

4. Mayfield is the favorite because they have a great group coming back.

5. I just wasted my time typing this--because if you don't know who those teams are already (you know--teams that actually are good enough to win a state championship every year)--then you probably don't know much about football in this state (let me guess .. the next thing that you will say is that you know more than I ever will ... which will be a big laugher .. but whatever).

For real, you should try to get out of the Boar's Nest every once in while ... or fire Daisy Duke so you can keep your full attention on my posts.

Good luck to your team (whoever that is) ... and good luck to everyone elses team as well ...

This is ca, ca, ca, ca craaazzzzyyyy Cooter signing out for now!

Teams with a chance to win as mentioned are: Mayfield, LCA, Beechwood and Hazard.

Mayfield is the team to beat. Just read an article in the paper that Beechwoods Mathews is out for the year. That makes three projected senior starting linemen out for the year.

Does Hazard rank in this group? I would likely drop them just a slight spot below Mayfield and LCA.

No love for Crittenden? They had Mayfield beat in the playoffs last year, and if not for a blocked punt late in the 4th, they likely would have been playing in the Championship. Pretty sure they're bringing back a lot of players as well. Losing JD Gray hurts a lot but they still have a strong core and Starnes will have them ready like he always does.

If the state semi-final is in Ft. Mitchell, I will put my money on Beachwood everytime.

Three?

For many on this side (eastern) of Louisville, the name Beechwood means something and they are respected to the degree that perhaps they have an edge. Um, not so much with Mayfield. Frankly, Mayfield could likely care less. The name and tradition means nothing to Mayfield IMO.

Larimore, Genal, Mathews

Was the above "semi final in Ft Mitchell" post referring to the "tradition" or the fact it will be a "LONG" trip to Ft Mitchell and BW will have home filed advantage?

Mayfield folks are very familiar with Bwoods tradition and holds alot of respect for them. And, I'm pretty sure, folks from West Ky feel equally respectful for Mayfields tradition and name. With that said, I doubt that tradition or name have much bearing on the kids themselves or the outcome either way, should they meet. Both have it and both have better than most in regards to other 1a teams, tradition, coaching, depth, talent, etc... Where the games played, however, could be a much bigger factor. I don't care who you are, a 5 hr drive the day of the game or spending the night before in a motel, either way, it's getting you out of your routine and comfort zone and can be a factor. Some handle it, others don't. You just never know....
