Not sure why everyone thinks we need T.O. to stretch the field. Chad is the one that will be stretching the field. T.O. is going to be catching a lot of balls over the middle and short yardage balls for 1st downs IMO.

People that have been on BGP since the start of it know I have consistantly killed the Bengals for all the outlaws they go after and how they will never win without character. This is one move for a guy with baggage that I like. Obviously there's a chance for it to blow up but I think the media drives T.O. into the ground. How much trouble did he cause in Buff last year? He's not a saint but he is a guy that's going to play hard and lay it on the line. He's big, physical, blocks and is strong in the red zone. Bryant is a criminal that is physical, T.O. if you have ever followed his past is a man that has never had the male role model in his life. He's not my kind of player because he draws attention to himself but he is a competitor that works his tail off. In Philly he proved a lot to me the way he layed his body on the line. He's past his prime but he, 85, Gresham, Benson, Scott etc gives them A LOT of talent + Bryant when he's healthy.

I don't think the Bengals win because they still lack character guys but as a fan of Cincy teams it is nice to see one of the franchises actually act like they give a squat about winning!

I'm guilty as charged. I've loathed TO and have cheered against every team he has played for. I really like this move for the Bengals. If Carson endorses it, we're fine. The CP/TO workouts were to evaluate compatability, not ability. This is a ringing lack of confidence in Andre Caldwell and I agree. I do not believe he is an NFL caliber receiver; no speed, avg. size, poor routes, no hands, no intangibles. With Shipley in the slot and Gresham as TE, they will be tough to defend. A nice mix of a couple WR's on the back nine of their career, and a couple guys on the first tee. I think it was a big mistake that the contract was loaded with personal incentives. He was quiet last year because he got most of the $$ up front, yet he still performed OK. Perhaps the "me-me" thing could've been mitigated with a bigger salary and smaller incentive package. If Benson gets enough touches, he could have a career year.

The Bengals now have 2 overrated loudmouths that are so self centered that they don't even go by their real names. It's a train wreck in the making.

Maybe you just don't cover TO? He's bound to drop 3 out of every 4 passes. There were many years he could have had around 20 TDs if he could have just caught the ball.

 

That said this is a great WR core...if we're talking about 2005 or something.

1) Owens #s last year in Buffalo with no QB, were better than any Bengal not named Chad's. So he's an improvement over what they have or had.

 

2) Go back and look at his behavior at all his stops in year 1. He's been the perfect employee/teammate in his first or only year on all accounts.

 

3) How can you say either Owens or Chad are overrated? They've both produced at a very high level everywhere they've been.

 

4) It's at minimal cost, so if by some crazy off chance it doesn't work out, the Bengals aren't out of anything.

WRONG. One of my friends is a HUGE Bengals fan. Has been one for life. And believe me, he knows football. And he hates this move. I don't blame him. Just sayin.

I have cited a couple reasons in another thread why I think it is a risk to take Owens in to a volatile situation.

 

Another concern I have is Chad. He and Owens are buds and he was the vocal leader of getting him on the Bengals. He is doing nothing right now but building the pressure upon the team and Owens with this Batman/Robin stuff and massaging Terrell's ego.

 

Skip Bayless loathes Owens, he does not hide that. He did have a funny yesterday when he said that if Ocho is Robin, then Owens is Alfred :lol:
