I have cited a couple reasons in another thread why I think it is a risk to take Owens in to a volatile situation.

 

Another concern I have is Chad. He and Owens are buds and he was the vocal leader of getting him on the Bengals. He is doing nothing right now but building the pressure upon the team and Owens with this Batman/Robin stuff and massaging Terrell's ego.

 

Skip Bayless loathes Owens, he does not hide that. He did have a funny yesterday when he said that if Ocho is Robin, then Owens is Alfred :lol:

 

But for what the Bengals had to give him, it's a no lose situation. Just like all the other "questionable" acquisitions they've made, if he acts up, you release him, and you aren't at a lose of much. Only difference is this time you know the level of production you're getting if/when it works out.

WRONG. One of my friends is a HUGE Bengals fan. Has been one for life. And believe me, he knows football. And he hates this move. I don't blame him. Just sayin.

 

There's no reason to hate it. If he acts up, you release him, and you're not out of anything. Seems like a no risk, high reward move to me.

 

Besides Palmer endorsing this what are the positives to this signing? This is not the Owens of 5 years ago from a skill stand point yet he still has the ego. The Bengals now have 2 overrated loudmouths that are so self centered that they don't even go by their real names. It's a train wreck in the making.

 

It is definitely a huge upgrade from Coles and Caldwell. Neither Owens, Ocho, or Bryant are #1 receivers at this point in their career, but are all still productive. The premier DB's in the league would be able to cover any of them with single coverage; however, now there are several passing options. Last year they had one option (#85), and his ability to create separation has really diminished. Even Bratkowski can create an unpredictable offense with this cast of characters. The Bengals passing game doesn't necessarily need to carry the team, just eliminate a defense's ability to put eight in the box to stop Ced.

That is why I brought up the whole Chad angle. If Owens acts up, not productive, or for whatever reason he is cut, Chad has laid the foundation that he could side with his boy, Terrell. It is not below Chad to cause his own havoc if things do not pan out as he wants.

I agree.

This is a great move by the Bengals.

 

Anyone who doesn't think so is simply blinded by their dislike of T.O.

 

As far as Bryant goes, he won't be on the PUP list. He will be on the field tomorrow in Georgetown and ready to play, but obviously with some caution.

 

The BEngals receiving core will be absolutely gross this year. Chad, T.O, Bryant, Gresham and if you wanna go 5 wide throw in Briscoe, Caldwell, Shipley.

 

The Bengals will have enough veterans in the locker room to keep the egos in check. If Carson likes the move, I don't see how anyone can dislike it?

I like the move, on paper. But TO has proven time and time again that he's a big baby when he doesn't get his way. Those are two VERY large ego's going after the same football. I hope I'm wrong but there are definitely going to be times that both receivers will be looking to "get there's" and it will all be on Carson.

 

And...of course Carson wanted to sign him. They were running some routes on an empty field with no one else to throw to. Wonder if he asked Romo about him.

Herman made a good point on ESPN. As talented as this team is going to be, they're obviously going to move the ball and get first downs. What does that equal? More opportunities to spread the ball around and keep everyone happy.

 

As long as this team is winning, I doubt very seriously you'll see anyone, especially TO, complaining. TO is at the point in his career and life where he simply wants a ring and wants to win.

 

And some of you are leaving out the fact that this is the best QB that T.O has ever had throwing to him. Some of you will argue Steve Young may be better or was, but I'll take #9 all day.
